Still won't make a whole hell of a difference since these drugs were just the tip of the iceberg as compared to those drugs smuggled in via shipping containers - which to this day arrive in port, are offloaded and trucked to their destination with only a visual check of the container's manifest and for the most part, zero customs inspection.
In comparison, those who try to smuggle narcautics via fishing vessel, yacht, small aircraft, and yes, by mini-submarine are small time freelancers. It is the container trade that needs to be scruitinized. That will never happen as long as the U.S. retail establishment so desperately depends on consumer goods manufactured in Asia. Do you sacrafice gloal trade for a "drug free America"? Those who make all the nation's important decisions say "not only no but hell no".
And hell will probably freeze over before USCG ships are properly armed for their missions. Don't expect to see ASW sensors and weaponry on cutters ever again. Do more with less.

Sorry, you joined about 50-60 years too late. Until the 1980s, the Coast Guard ASW weapons of choice were torpedos and hedge-hogs. I believe that the hedge-hogs were discontinued when the 327' class of WHEC was decommissioned in the early to middle 1970s.
-Other than myself, i don't know and CG people that have ASW warfare or training experience. -I obviously got it from "another" service.(people here dont like hearing the "N"(avy) word. -Actually its now called USW. (undersea warfare) ASW was too politically incorrect. The CG just doesn't have the time/ resources for that.
Oh..and just FYI...the "Jonesy effect" doesn't work.....(its not "red October")
But if you really want look the history of concrete subs...
