So what did you guys think about the Search and Rescue Mission hearing conducted by the Department of Homeland Security where the congress men and women pretty much disected and analyzed some huge cases that happened over the past year etc? Do you feel any one congressman/woman had no idea what he/she was talking about? Do you feel the committee supports us in our SAR mission?
(Mods: If you want you can switch it over to search and rescue if you really feel you need too, however I put it in OS mainly because the one rate you will find not only a huge asset to search and rescue, but the core of the discussions was revolved around the command center ops and procedures etc as well as the experience levels and decisions from not only the command as a whole but also the individual watch standers on watch from OU to CU... AKA OS's )
31 As you might imagine, I had a part in prepping the Admiral. I'll leave folks to their own conclusion about the members of Congress. I can tell you for sure that we have the highest levels of support from the Flag Corp. In all cases discussed, everyone believes that no matter what we as the watch & CG did, we could not have prevented the deaths. That said, it is always wise to review what we did do and finds ways to learn and improve.
I think one common thread we can learn from the cases discussed, and from other cases, is that we as the watch need to have what the leaders refer to as a 'bias for action.' That means our prefered option will always be to take more action, vice less, if there is any doubt as to which way to go. Make sense?
