Trends in Terror
http://www.military.com/opinion/0,15202,169037,00.html
The same thing could be said of many of our "business" enemies, like China, Russia, Israel... they are ALL trying to undermine security in one form or another to get an advantage over us, such as when the Chinese tried to break into the Pentagon's computer systems recently? Nothing new here, same old fear-mongering. However, I do agree we should not be resting on our laurels, as the United States needs all our attention to rebuild our shattered economy, find answers to the healthcare crisis, invest billions to switch from oil to renewable energies and on and on and on. Fact is, if we could finally make the commitment to alternative sources of energy and just stop buying oil from Mideast countries, they would no longer have the money to be a threat to anybody. Which is why we need a CHANGE in the White House. |

I guess the theme of Mr. Brookes' message is.... be afraid. Be verrrrrry afraid. For what it's worth, just because Al Qaeda became the poster child in America for ME terrorism doesn't mean AQ enjoyed that status with the hodge-podge of terrorists, criminals, and other assorted sociopaths who have discovered the Internet and easy access to cheap weapons. But there's a buck in it for a lot of folks. So, if I buy the Heritage this or the Hudson that or the Project whatever POV, I'll worry about Al Qaeda and its successors and pretend there are no drunk drivers on the road, no thieves across the street, no contaminations in my food or medicine from China, no safety violations in my workplace, no drivers on cell phones running stop signs, no pollution in the air, no storms on the horizon, no unregistered handguns in the hands of felons, no cancer, no diabetis.... you get my drift. If there's a "trend in terror" it's that it's a growing business.
