In the absence of a rival like the Soviet Union, the United States became a 'bully'. It has used both economic and military power to intimidate or cower other nations into compliance with its heavy-handed intentions to establish a "New World" order dominated by U.S.-based multinational Corporations and enforced by the U.S. Military.
China and Israel have been the biggest beneficiaries of this New World order. The United States itself has incurred crippling debt, an economy whose manufacturing capability has been gutted and whose agricultural sector has shifted millions of acres away from food production to ethanol production, an impairment of our freedoms in order to enhance our security, a run-down military skewed toward population control and counter-insurgency warfare, and a bitterly-divided citizenry.
I think that our country will have a better chance of rebalancing its national priorities, if it recognized that it had rivals intent on constraining our economy and our military. We have done so much damage to ourselves and to the third world in pursuit of this obsessive war against islamic nationalism. There are a billion Moslems out there and less than 10 million zionists. The Moslems will not align themselves with Russians or Chinese, unless catering to the interests of "the enemy of their enemy" becomes more important to their survival than the markets and ideals of the West.
