I was a 12B Combat Engineer from 82-86. I guess it is 21B now. I was with the 20th Engineers in the Eagle support brigade for a few months then went to the 5th Engineers and finished out my time with the 547th Engineer Bn in Darmstadt, Germany.
I was was 52B but was reclassed to 52D back in the 70's. Now as a GS 0081 I could associate with the Engineer Regiment. But I'm already associated with the Civil Affairs regiment. Oh yeah and I had the old 51M mos too.
The best time I had was being an Engineer Platoon Leader. I see a post from an SFC who transferred to the Civil Affairs...I did the same after crashing a car in Panama (and getting away with it..) but the Civil Affairs were so full of such chickencrap officers and backstabbers it wasn't fun or funny. The Engineers are simply the best...I was in the 801st Engineer Co. (Port Construction)..it was a blast. Luckily I'm not in jail.
STaylor for your info the 101st ENG BN is still active with the MA Army National Guard and were part of the YD during WW I and II. The 20th was at Fort Devens, MA in the 60's before shipping out. I was with the 560th ENG BN in the GA Army National Guard as a 62B20 and kept that MOS when I transferred to the MA ARNG until my retirement in 2001.
