Are there any former map makers from 649th out there? I was stationed at Tompkins barracks from 1990-1993. I would love to rehash some stories and some memories from those great times.

Just found your request, though it has been a couple of years since you posted I respond. I have a long history of involvement with the TOPO Engrs. 656th, Tompkins Barracks, 1966-68; 66th, Viet Nam, 71-72; 524th, Ft Hood, Tx, 1972-75; 649th, 1977-79. I started as a Plate Maker and progressed to MOS 83Z, Offset Foreman. While I enjoyed printing, it was a relitivly small field and in order to obtain rank I left the field 1979 for Military Intelligence, serving in Special Ops (PSYOP's)at Ft. Bragg; Recruiting in Florida; 2d Inf. Div in Korea; back to Ft. Bragg and PSYOPs; back to Korea as First Sergeant of a Mil. Intel Co; and finally to Ft. Bliss and the Sergeants Major Academy, where I retired in 1991. I have memories of TOPO but regret to say I've not stayed in contact with anyone from that period of my life.
