Hi everyone I posted something similar to this on the Army Wannabe forum but am posting here also. I know the moderators don't like that so I'm sorry if I tick you guys off. Anyway, what do Combat Engineers and Carpentry or Masonry Specialists generally do while deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan? How often and for how long do you get deployed over in those countries? Have any of you guys ever seen combat even in the smallest degree? Thank you to all future replies.
Plumbers, Electricians, Carpentry, and Masonry specialties are very low density MOSs, meaning there arn't a whole lot of them so I dont expect to see more than a few at a time, but when I was part of TF Mike we hadHorizontal and vertical units attached from the Army and Navy (as in SeaBees) we had lots of 'em.
What did they do ? Build buildings, front poches, sun shades and before the contractors got hired and sent in country, a butt load of 3 hole latrines, shaving stands, and guard huts.
21B's do lots from road clearing, road maintenance, digging out grey water pits... anything that involves moving lots of dirt.
Nope, I do know the difference. I was in 265th Engineer Group (Combat). In Iraq we had working for us the 878th Combat Heavy, 724th Combat Corps Wheeled, 478th Mech (90% of which were 12B) Army BNs, 7 NMCB, 130th NMCB (Seabees), as well as the ROK 1100 Engineer (SouHee) BN (which by the way had a platoon of infantry attached for protection).
21B's moved lots of dirt... they just dont have the MTOE to haul it.
