Not trying to hijack the thread, but can anyone tell me more about 21E AIT? It is a MOS that I can do on my profile and I would love to remain 21 series.

AIT:
-3 weeks, 1 day...is this enough time to really learn enough to be effective when you arrive at your unit?
-Any idea what the 8-day BFT after AIT is?
-Phones, Laptops, etc in AIT?
-Any thoughts on the MOS? Is it fun? Interesting?

21E:
-what is life like in the units?
-I would be in a Multi-Role Bridge Company....any experience in working in this type of unit?

I went thurough equipment operator AIT one year ago.

Equipment operating is simple, but to be 'good' at it you need expierence, and you will get that at your unit. For the most part 21E AIT is simply you being licensed on the equiptment, and learning the basics of operating and driving it.

BFT (Battle Focused Training)is a short period of time after AIT for engineers where you brush back up on basic skills like 9-lines, uxo reports, get some more EST and weapons training, and you also get to undergo the lovely 9 hour finance class. Easy fun stuff.

If you pass your first PT test, then your DS will allow you to have your electronic devices to use only during personal time. Or if you are a regular (non split-opt/non delayed entry) soldier with a PT card from basic proving that you passed your final BCT test with over 60% in each event, then you will likely never have to turn in your electronics in the first place.

Also, prior service 21E have it made you can say, all they have to do is pass one PT test the first week there and show up for the bus to take the trainees to course. No formations with the IET soldiers other than at course.

Hope this helps!
