Ok I have just switched from explorer over to firefox and for some reason it keeps logging me out whenever I flip to a new page, which makes it a pain in the azz to comment. Anyone outthere computer savvy enough to explain my f-up? Thanks in advance.

FYI, Firefox and Eve (Mil.com's software) do not get along. I'll quote you from one of the more smarter Mod's than myself..... Big Grin

quote:
are you using the latest version of Firefox? that does not play well with Eve. you either have to drop down to an earlier version or use internet Exploited.

the tech guys are aware, but do not not seem to be interested in providing a patch at this time.

So as you can see, it is not just a problem effecting Non-mods. Big Grin

Thanks for the info Gunny. I work in the eCommerce business and we have to work on compatibility for our merchants and firefox is one of those browsers several people as using instead of IE. Hopefully the IT group with Eve get that patch out soon.

Use Opera! It plays with Eve just fine and is one HELL of a lot faster than either Internet Exploiter or FireFox!

I hardly use FireFox at all anymore, but I suspect you've got the security settings too high!

Click TOOLS, OPTIONS, PRIVACY, and review your COOKIE settings; you may have mil.com "excepted".

Hey KJ, I looked into the privacy settings too and it was a no go. That was were part of my frustration was coming from after a while as you can see in this thread.

As for Safari, it has some flaws, especially with the eCommerce business side. It is mainly used by Mac users and the PC users are having an extremely difficult time pairing their services with the different product services provided by the payment industry. Nonetheless, I will try downloading Safari again and checking out the compatibility with the Eve forum services. Thanks for the idea.

Hmmm....Interesting!

I have the latest version of Firefox on my system (I keep it up to date even though I don't use it much anymore), and it seems to be working just fine.

Safari? You using that on PC or Mac?

I haven't even thought of Safari since I played with PowerBooks and G3 Desktops!

I've never considered it for the PC.

Is this question asked more with Cross-platform application compatability development in mind?

About the only thing I use Exploder for anymore is either Microsquish updates or troubleshooting customer's questions.

As I say, I use Opera (v.9.61) almost exclusively nowadays; it doesn't seem to have any negatives and once you get your preferences set the way you want them, it's wonderful!

I use firefox for my general web surfing, however I have the same problem on this website with the logging issues. When I use these forums, I use Internet Explorer.

Okay, now open Internet Explorer. Log onto Military.com and click Wannabe Forum, and stay there. In other words, GTFO.

Reply: I use a PC, but a small percentage of eCommerce merchants use a MAC, approximately 10% to 15%. These merchants use an array of browsers, minus IE.

I've never considered it for the PC.

Reply: I have a couple buddies who have PC's that use either Safari or Opera. They have some issues with them, but nothing I can state are merchant based. Typically the merchants are concerned with the accessibility and performance with their user interfaces on several platforms.

Is this question asked more with Cross-platform application compatability development in mind?

Reply: Yes, we have a couple hundred thousands merchants on our platform and we clearly state that we support only IE and Netscape (which is almost out of the picture due to lack of use by the majority of users). With the increasing use of Firefox by several of the eCommerce and Users (customers), the industry is seriously considering supporting Firefox soon, whatever soon is who knows.

Reply: The percentage of users in the eCommerce industry, as far as we have been able to determine, IE is about 65% to 70% users, possibly higher, Firefox is about 15% to 20%, and remaining users are on Safari, Opera, Netscape, and a few of the lesser known browsers.

The online business industry is extremely versatile, however, due to all the differing browsers, it is extremely difficult for any one platform to support all browsers. That doesn't mean we don't test on as many of the different browsers. Nonetheless, as with any industry you maintain service and support for the primary ones being used. I know we have been looking to increase services for compatibility with Firefox due to the increase of users. When that will happen depends on the actual demand and costs to due so, as with any established company.

I primarily use IE because that is what we support and I use Firefox, Safari, and Opera only for troubleshooting when I receive an inquiry. I really become annoyed when after reading documentation on a service and I am unable to determine what is best suited for my usage. Then after several attempts at trying it I am unable to get it right I stop. This is one of my flaws, but it is also one of my strengths that I will continue through trial and error until I have thown my computer out the window. Curse Big Grin

There should be no reason you can't have 2 or more browsers. Just use firefox for the business stuff and IE for this stuff. Simple.

I agree with you IPS. I was only mentioning the compatibility and usage of browsers when accessing different services. I personally use IE for all services, but I have all the other browsers on my computer to determine if there are any issues our merchants are having. Proper research and analysis is what keeps us up to date with everyone.

So GSEMarine94, stick with IE until you become comfortable with how to manipulate the settings for any other browser service.
