My daughter just informed me of a feature I didn't know I had on my iPhone. There is a Google Map icon. I already knew about that.

And it has mapping and you can get directions from point A to point B. Already knew that.

But she pointed out that if I tap a small icon in the corner, the cell towers will triangulate on me ane pinpoint me within some small degree of error, not nearly as good as GPS but good enough to give directions to a point B.

I tried this in downtown Seattle and it had no trouble finding me within about a half of a block. Not bad for a poor man's GPS. It even will pop up a satellite image showing where I'm at. My GPS won't do that. But I'm still not tossing my Garmin though. Wink

Yep.

Those cell phones are pretty handy now and again.

I'm serving on a Grand Jury in Massachusetts. For some reason concerning the Feds authority over wireless transmissions (FCC) the DA's office has to come to us for a subpoena for cell phone tower records.

We indicted one guy for murder. He claimed he was home all night of the night in question. Meanwhile cell phone records subpoenaed by the Grand Jury show his cell phone traveling all over the Boston area on the night in question. From the scene of the murder and points in between to his home.

I think he eventually confessed (there were some collaborating witnesses also).

Big Brother is watching. Eek

If you are going to commit a crime:

Bring Cash (No ATM or Credit Cards)
Leave the Cell at Home
Leave car at Home (Walk 5 miles and carjack an old lady)
Year before steal Firearm from random Walmart next State over
THEN Proceed to Crime

I think that could safely be called "premeditation!" Cool
