Ah! Those were the days.

You know you are a youngster, if you haven't lived through 8 Tracks and 45 RPM. Big Grin

Someone posted this photo in the aviation forum of Iwakuni and I happened to catch the rack of 8 tracks. Big Grin

Yeah, I remember them well, especially after my 8 track was stolen from my GTO. I'm still looking for that dude.

I collect old stuff and just started looking at the old professional reel to reel. They still are quite valuable, for some reason. I have seen some sell for between $1500 and $2000.

Well this nostalgia kick is going to get expensive, I can say.

This was a pro quality recorder that was used in the 70s. These had expensive state of the art designs. These cost over $1000 when they first came out.

I found someone that has 9 of these. I'm thinking about buying them all. Wink There are a ton of these high end recorders, in various brands, from this era, and they are quite collectible.

Have you used it? What's the cool factor on a scale of 0 - 10? Big Grin

I remember when I brought a 20 pound mechanical calculator to work. Got a lot of stares. I can just imagine walking around with this and a Red/White audio cable connected to some headphones. Big Grin

I'm always looking for reel to reel decks in yard sales. Haven't come across any. I do have a few vintage shortwave radios.

I built a couple of audio cables for my Sony recorder above and made a couple of tapes, as a test last night. Awesome sound from this deck.

I'm looking at a Nagra right now. Probably going to cost near $2000 to get one of those, the way prices are. Frown

Don't laugh. We actually did used to have one of those. The needles weren't much more than a sharpened nail. Wink

Decided to buy a few of the Sony TC-D5 (above). These are awesome decks and were aimed at the professional. Quite Good Specs.

Also picked up a mint in the box Sony WM-D6C

ipscone one meets YouTube. Big Grin

Here is what this deck sounds like:

Click image to see and hear this in operation

Closeup of VU meters

Yeah! I know... we have all see VU meters. But not on YouTube. Big Grin

Note: My video camera is High Def, Wide Screen and YouTube distorts it to fit their frame. Bogus! They need to join the 21st century of wide screen. Wink Got to go back now and retake this in Standard Def.

Its not like we use it for high quality recording. Mostly we use it to listen to radio tapes from Communications.

But it does have quite good specs. 20-19,000Hz response.
