Artillery brings dignity to what would otherwise be just a brawl.

you look at some of the topics, you want to respond, and ask yourself, why?
For some of you that have read earlier posts, my oldest son has Cerebral Palsey. We went to Children's Hospital in DC today for what we thought was going to be hip replacement surgery. After the Doctor finally got a good x-ray, we discovered that his hip sockets were fine, but he needed ham string and hip abductor work on both legs. After about 6 hours under general anasthesia, some un-controlled bleeds that were finally controlled, and 4 brand new scars, he is resting comfortably. I'm off to bed, 0700 is going to come awfully early.......
I'm with you. Understand where you are coming from. My wife has stage 4 breast cancer. It's been a long 18 months. Then with the housing market in the tank I didn't start a new job for seven months. Now I'm working like a mad man trying to make up lost work and income. The forum is kind of a distraction. Let's me see how my fellow Marines are doing and thinking. I'll pray for your son tonight. It's wearing mentally and physically to watch a loved one go through such a disease. Hang in there Marine!.
Understand completely nephew has CP stroke at 2, leg extensions at 15 and 18 and is now 31 and a junior in college and doing wonderfully is studying to work with children with medical handicaps.
Brought Rob home yesterday afternoon. The first ambulance wasnt wide enought to transport him since his legs and feet are braced 36" apart. Had to wait an additional 2 hours for them to bring a wider ambulance. Valium and pain killers are keeping him very relaxed. He's hanging out in his la-z-boy watching baseball. So far, so good. We go back the 21st for post op.
ETA: Thanks for everyone's thoughts and prayers.

I hear ya Steve, I'm glad your son is doing better! Bringing my wife home from the first round of Chemo yesterday, some airhead cuts me off. I didn't even cuss at him, got bigger fish to fry.
I was sitting here rubbing Rob's legs tonight to help with circulation, and I was thinking about something my wife said. I got more responses and well wishes from people I only know by their S/N, than from people that I work with and see every day.
Hey Steve- Your son is indeed in my family's prayers. My younger brother (14 years younger, he was Mom and Dad's suprise when they were 43)is a pediatrician, and has completed a pedes icu fellowship. Should you need questions answered that haven't been, or have an "o crap what do we do moment" and have no comm with your regular doc, just email. He's watching me type this, so if you need him, email me. Our Dad died young when Shawn (my brother) was a juinor in high school. Dad had lingered with congestive heart failure and cancer for the last 9 years that he lived. He asked me to make sure that Shawn got where he needed to go, so I was fortunate enough to have been able to help when I needed to. By the time my youngest daughter graduates (we have 4, assuming she does not do law, med, or grad school, I will have been paying for college for 27 straight years. So, if you have a doc question and can't get your's, drop me a line. If you want my cell, let me know. Semper Fi.
I guess the only thing we are really concerned about is the Carbatrol for seizures. It appears that a side affect of it is bleeding and bruising. Although we have never experienced any problems previously, the orthopedic surgeon had some problems with bleeding while working on his hip abductors. Fortunately for Rob, she wasnt doing any bone work, she said if she had been, he could have bled out on her. I do beleive his guardian angel was looking out for him. She recommends that we follow up with Neurology and Hematology, so that we can address this further.
Today, he ate well, had some good naps during the day and hung out and watched tv. One good one down, many more to go.

I guess "Marine" says it all.
Thanks from all of us.
Steve, shoot me a e-mail tomorrow. I'll jump on the Metro and buy you a cup of joe. I think you have the address, or look me up on Global.
