For me, I never intended to join the Marines but instead, to be an Airman. One fateful day I followed couple high school buddies to the Corps recruittment office and was lambasted for wanting to be an airman. "why would you want to join a panty a*s outfit like that? Are you deserting your friends, the recruitter kept saying. Before I knew it, I was in booth camp getting yelled at and all the goodies. In retrospect, I'm glad I followed them to the recruitter office, else I would have never known the true inkling of what it is to be in a tight knit group of people who stood for honor of God, Country and Corps! semper fi

Artillery brings dignity to what would otherwise be just a brawl.

There is nothing better than being a PFC in Blues showing up at your girlfriend's senior prom and having all the chicks stare at you.

Because Marines are the best.

(Trust me... after my time in Active Duty I had the privilege to experience the ARMY first hand, only then, will you recognize Marines as "The BEST")

Army - Never.
Navy - Didn't want to wear bell-bottoms.
Air Force - The female recruiter was unsat in uniform.
Marines - the best and wanted to better my situation.

Before I joined many around said the the Marines were the toughest and because of that, the Marines were the "first to fight and first to die." I did researched and sure enough, everything everyone was saying was true. I'm sure some if not more had the first to fight and first to die thought on your mind before you joined but that's history since you are here, ALIVE. I knew why some went to the Marines, because their male relatives were all marines. Others because they wanted to get some, while still others thought they were bad *ss so they joined to see how bad *ss the corps was. The unfortunate ones as they would say, were drafted.

I would claim temporary insanity but turns out it’s rather permanent. Seriously, I wanted to be a cop and thought it would be a great stepping stone. That’s the reason for going into the service. I was first contacted by the Army and was not impressed by the recruiter. She was a total rock. The Marine recruiter called to talk to my brother and I started asking him questions. He sold me on the challenge. I’ve never regretted it. The only regret I have is getting off of active duty in the first place. Now I’m stuck as a reservist. I could go back active but it’s not just my choice any more. I have a husband and 2 kids who are affected by my choices these days.

I joined for the collage benefits. WinkNo really, my best friend was joining to be in the FAST units and I had flirted around with going in the Corps because I always thought the Marines were the best. I was going to go to college on an NROTC schloarship, then changed my mind when my friend joined and decided to go through the bulldog program. Joined the reserves went to a semester of collage then went to the Island,MCT,MOS school then on to my reserve unit. Then when Saddam invaded Kuwait I applied for active duty. I was torn because I wanted to lat move to be a 1811,0313. But I felt I would miss out on the war. So I took a chance I wouldn't be stuck in a in the rear with the gear unit and went active. I got lucky and got sent to A1/11 which was deploying to the sandbox. The rest is history. I enjoyed my time in ARTY and got to see a lot of the world.
