Aw come on Gunner, all CWO's have Subic Bay stories....

Personally I love the bars with live music. I tell my wife all the time about how good these guys where. How much they sounded like the real bands. In 83 the Wall was still hot you could close you eyes and think it was the real thing. Then there was Hooks, so many good looking ones, but hey how would I know as I always was at Bible study. And the Mojo so fruity and cold......

Tom,

From 1983 to 1987, I was there somewhere between 25 - 30 visits. Almost enough to be "station dito". I've got plenty of memories, but alas all the photos were destroyed....and what happens in the PI, stays in the PI (nothing clean enough for these boards. And of course, all the stories are just second hand info, you know. If you remember, I was right next to you in Bible Study... Big Grin)

But those bands were awesome. Give them a good songwriter to generate original stuff and an agressive marketing agent, and a lot of them could have been pretty sucessful in the states.

Oh ya.... I was there way back in '78 or '79. But I still remember a few bars... Myrilyns (I can't freakin spell it ..), Peso Jimmies (I specifically remember seeing a vary talented dancer retreiving pesos from the bottom of a san miguel beer bottle. Its amazing we survived those days..... The Quarterdeck was another popular bar.

smartwarrior - you know all the stories you've heard...? Well, it was 10 times better than that.

You really had to experience it to understand it.

Ever been to Bourbon Street in the French Quarter, in New Orleans? Well, that place is boring, compared to Subic.

My 1st time in Subic I was told that by the time it was time to leave 4 weeks later that you would have been ready to go. That you would had your fill of drinking, tail and what ever made you feel whole again. Well it's true. It was an adult playland where anything was there for asking. It may not be that way anymore since the PI no longer lease's the base's to the US but it was a fun place. You get off work, take a shower and head to town, find your hook do what ever all night long, drag your but back to the Boat in the early hours if not later swearing you staying in tonight and when you get off you eat some chow jump in the shower and the rush takes over and you say I'm headed to town. You actually look forward to Duty Section as you can't go out to town and you catch up on everything. Do this for 4 weeks and will have your fill of things. Big Grin the Gunner is right there is nothing like this place
