Hey guys, I'm looking into a lat-move into CI and have been told before that I can't have any organizational tats. Anyone have an answer for this? I've got a few but none can be seen in PT gear and I wanted to be sure about this before finally getting my club patch.

Thanks,
Cpl Pot

Don't be suprised of the Tatoo regs start getting tighter, the move towards that was this past fall. The Tatoo rage in some folks eye has gotten out of hand, I can see their point. The CMC is not wild about Tatoo's he has made that clear, it may come down to if you now have visiable tatoo's they will be grandfathered in. After that you might not be able to re-enlist.....

With times changing etc on tattoos, piercings and all that stuff I personally think its a phase and all the military branches will be affected one day with recruitment qoutas etc.

With the exception of hate groups and the likes I personally believe it will revert one day.

It is kind of difficult to exclude people from the service because of body art. I personnally thing the piercings go too far and are just gross, but non-offensive tattoos can't stay banned for long. When the CMC changes, it will probably be revisited again. It always is. They all have their personal opinions on dress code and the like, so it is just a matter of time.

If by CI you mean counter intel, then you realy don't want tattoos that might identify you to another group.
Let's say you were trying to work your way into a group of european teroorists. It might not be so good to have a tat that identifies you with the american government.

Otherwise, the tat regs have gone over the top and personal beliefs about tattoos should not become policy that impacts oh about 75% of the Marine Corps.
if htere were hard facts that people with tattoos are mentally unstable , I could say the new policies have credence
I'll probably be a LCpl tommorrow for posting that.

CMC's will change, if you go by Genral Conway's idea of a fit Marine General Gray would not have made it as far as he did. Us short guys look chubby when skinny...

That is pretty funny. I can assure you there aren't any CI Marines trying to "infiltrate" a European terrorist organization.

To the OP - things may have changed in the last couple of years, but having a "USMC" tat wouldn't have been a disqualification in the past. I would call the local CI/HUMINT company and ask them about it. If you are not at one of the major MC installations (profile says active duty in Florida so not sure) find their number from your local S/G-2 office.

Hey even us tall guys have problems.
At 76 inches I'm stil built like a pear. I have a narrow shoulder girdle and wide hips and that comes from genetics.
My only saving grace is that I have 21 inch neck.
You have to wonder just how political the Corps has become when it cares more about looking like a posterboy than whether or not you can do your job and pass the pft.
Personally ,I'll take the marine that looks thick , knows his stuff, and can pt over a guy that looks like a lightbulb, but doesn't seem to have one on.
