Ladies and Gents,

I know a lot of you have great questions about becoming a 91W or 91WM6. A lot of us on here try to answer the questions to the best of our knowledge and are more than happy to do so. However, alas a lot of us are old geezers and have been in way too many years to know what is truly going on down at the school sorry to say. Also with it being a new MOS things literally change daily. You not only have the school's requirements to meet per se but the National EMT Boards requirements and if a 91WM6 then 50 state's State Board of LVN's to deal with as well. So to help you guys out please visit this site,

http://fshtx.army.mil/91w/contacts.htm

It lists all the numbers (or the major ones) to the school for both 91W and 91WM6's at Ft. Sam and can be found on the 91W homepage which is here;

http://fshtx.army.mil/91w/

Meaning if they did not want you to call one would assume they wouldn't post the numbers. These folks run the very school and MOS many of you are trying for and as a result are the true subject matter experts. Before I or anyone else gives out the wrong information, unintentionally I am sure, please check here with these folks first.

I hope that somehow this link can be kept at the top of this forum as a reference don't know how to do that though. But it is a great starting point and a wealth of information for those who are thinking about this MOS. If knowledge is the key then these folks hold that key. Do not be "scared" to call them with questions it is why they are there and most will direct your call to the appropriate folks. Recently I needed information on recent medical advances made in the military and they were more than glad to help so here you go and hope it helps a lot and gives you guys a place to start.

91 Whiskey is the MOS for a Healthcare Specialist. I believe this incorporated the MOS of 91 Bravo. Ussfpa will know for sure.

seems the first link is no longer available as the site has been taken down, removed, etc. So here is the new link to go to:

http://www.cs.amedd.army.mil/91w/contactus/91wcontacts.html

Simple enough and lists the same contacts to answer your questions. Again call them and ask if you have specific questions.

Are the old posts discussing this topic still around?

BTW-haven't been around for awhile, see they finally got a medic board up, looks like you are doing a pretty good job of keeping them policed...

I was hoping to see a little more action on this loop.

Ret/E6/SSG 91D Served with the 46th CSH during the first Gulf War.

Moved from the old MUST system into DEPMEDS while we were there. Seemed like we'd died and gone to heaven. What kind of systems do they use now (retired in 91)? Cool

most field hospitals are still using the depmeds system with iso shelters. Some improvements in the technology of the medical equipment has been made though (field ventilators about the size of a briefcase, field cat scan, LSAT I believe they are called litters, etc).

I'm heading to MEPS in a week and need to know as much as I can before I sign anything. I'm looking at either 91W or going into operating room assistant. My questions are:
Is airborne an option?
How hard is it to get promoted?
What kind of units or stations am I likely to be in?

I'm really looking forward to Being a Medic and just wanted to have more answers as my wife keeps coming up with more of these questions.

Thanks everyone!

Jeremy

Airborne is an option for just about every MOS, you can put it for it and request it from your recruiter or you can join and try to go later. Remember though just cause you put in the paperwork for Airborne doesn't mean they have to give it to you.

Promotions in both MOS's are fairly quick up to the rank of Sergeant, after that they are slow as hell to make Staff and Sergeant First Class. If not looking to make the Army a career though shouldn't be an issue. If you are things are known to change.

Where you can be stationed 91W:
combat arms or aviation platoon medic, combat support platoon medic, Battalion Aid station, Troop medical clinic, ambulance company, Fast team, Combat Support Hospital, Hospital.

91D operating room tech: TMC the larger ones, fast team, combat support hospital, hospital.

Pretty much sums it up.

For those going to 91D or Operating room technician try the following link:

http://www.dns.amedd.army.mil/91D/

Better yet for the best site EVER go to this link, you will find links to every medical MOS there is and their homepages, instructor and class information, qualifications etc. One of the best links out there and sponsored by AKO so you know it is legit.

http://www.medtrng.com/mosinfo.htm

Will post more links to sites as I come across them.

Note to moderators is there any way to make this the 2nd Post under this topic thread???

When I was at FT.Sam back in 1970-71. When you left (AIT) MTC you were a 91A10. Then when you were an SP/4 you were a 91B20 E6/E7 91B40 Roll Eyes

What is m6? Is that practical nurse course? If so, I took the same school at El paso.
