Interested in wavering back in as a 68W with F-6 course Flight medics course in contract working on civilian EMT-Basic hoping to take the NREMT registry exam by mid summer 2009. How do I request F-6 course would the hip fracture be disqualifing in a flight physical at MEPS? I want to Waver Back in had a hip fracture (original hip not replacement has healed old regulations said wait 2 years for it to heal). Are there any Army Reserve Medivac Units? Are all active duty ones at Fort Hood? I do not have an active AKO account just a home computer so none of the links on this forum or any whare else seem to work for the schools etc. Thanks. |

F-6 is a school of it's own, you must request it with your re-enlisment contract or if ur active, then put in a 4187. Most people get in thru re-enlistment, i know me and other flightmedics had to sign up for 4 more years. but it's totally worth it if u love being a medic. it might disqualify you depending on what your capabilities are with these injuries, and mostly, what you tell the doc at MEPS. if you feel like ur healed, they'll just annotate it and u'll pass the physical. there are many reserve and NG medevac units. no, not all active duty medevac are in ft hood. we got some in irwin, bragg, campbell, polk, stewart, bliss, germany and many other places.
flight medic school is easy, just make sure you know ur ACLS academics before you go, most people fail that part. as far as PT, it's almost non existing at the flight medic school, but being at the job requires a very good physical condition. |

Most states have a Army National Guard Air Ambulance Company (Medevac).
There are some reserve units, too. "CLEARWATER, FLA-Calling it a great day for the Army Reserve and the American Soldier, Lt. Gen. Jack C. Stultz, chief, Army Reserve, joined Congressman C. W. Bill Young in welcoming the MEDEVAC/Air Ambulance mission back to the Army Reserve and the Clearwater Aviation Support Facility. A roll-out ceremony, held on Saturday, June 7, 2008, officially reintroduced the Air Ambulance mission and helicopters to the Army Reserve. " Flight medic school is at the US Army Aviation Center at Fort Rucker, Alabama. It requires being an Army medic and being slotted in an air ambulance company. I know for National Guard units, it is very competitive to get in, 'cause it's a cool job. Guard Flight Medics have to drill more often (pilots need to fly more than once a month) and some may have "on-call" responsibilities for emergencies. Most active duty installations that have a Division based there have an Air Ambulance unit. |
