16 weeks of sunshine!
It's just like going to college, only the male to female ratio is like 10:1!! OK, that's a bold-faced lie, but that's what my recruiter told me. In his defense, he was just going off what he had heard, as he had never been there himself (and he never tried to hide that). BUT... Fact is, 68W is referred to as a "second basic training" environment by some med. folks. But I liked it. The Deltas, the Papas, and the Juliets I talked to pretty much all said "F that!" And I like that. It's a hard course, and a (very much) less than desirable living condition for 4 months. And I enjoyed it almost every day. We had about 100 guys living in one large bay (larger bays than other companies), and I was apprehensive to say the least going in. I really disliked some of the people around me, but I really enjoyed the company of many others. Living that close, you really get to know people. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not so good. But that's life. All in all, I got excellent training, met some really great (and interesting) people, had some great friendships, and had a very posiive overall experience. I'm in the 2nd phase of M6 training right now, and I sometimes wish I could go back to that 100 man bay. It may sound weird, but I made alot of friends there. Our bay had very few fights that got out of control - I can probably count them on one hand. For 100 guys in one room for 4 months, that's awesome in my book! One of them involved me and another guy who wanted to wrestle me one night. (It's a guy thing, for those of you reading this who don't understand - we wrestled alot). I just about choked the life out of him while he tried to tap out (which I didn't realize at first). He got pissed and wanted to box me after I let him up, but I apologized and talked him down. He's my buddy and roommate now in M6. We all actually got along pretty well, and we really pulled together when we had a job to do. It was pretty cool knowing you could trust people to do their job. I'm glad I did it, and enjoyed my experience. Best part is getting "pinned" when you complete the course. I really felt like I had accomplished something, and that 'something' was learning how to save Soldiers. Not much beats that, in my opinion. |

Foxtrot graduated the 68W program this morning. They got the soldiers up at 2:30 am, smoked them for an hour, made them clean the bay, run a couple miles and THEN allowed them to eat breakfast.
They formed for the graduation ceremony at 9:30, stood around for an hour or two and finally finished up around noon. Some family came to watch. More didn't come than did. Afterwards, there was a ton of waiting around while paperwork was found and soldiers were reassigned to other bays (holdovers) or sent to the airport. My DH said he was glad that I did not come. It is not because he is not proud of the accomplishment ... he has just not had any free time today. Also, even though there is a 4 day weekend coming up, they do not get overnights on weekends until October. I'm just looking forward to him taking some leave and coming home soon. After that, he is going to the M6 program - so we still have a long road ahead. |

Thank you Cider. LOL I don't know if anyone remembers our fighting over his joining on the forum last winter but those who do would probably be surprised that we made it this far! The great part is that we are stronger as a family and he has a true sense of purpose since joining. Thank you and the rest of the forum for the support.
I just hope that I have been able to give back at least a little of the great information that I have received here. |

So does the 16 weeks include BCT AND AIT or is it BCT then 16 weeks of AIT? Right now i'm deciding between 11B, 19D and 68W. I need to get all of my training done over the summer so i can get back to college.

it's BCT then 16 weeks of AIT for 68W.
Me, I'm going Basic at Ft. Leonard Wood 12wks- 2 for exodus then AIT at Ft. Sam Houston 16 wks. then, Jump school at Benning 3 weeks. then was told 99% chance I will be at Bragg. I hope so, it's where I want to go,, but we will see about that part. But I hope I answered your question, 15905859 |

You mean you don't want to go back through BCT?

Good answer! As for the bickering about early mornings, long hours, PT, etc., well, welcome to the Army! We're not civilians. We're Soldiers. That's life. |

I agree to the 10-1 ratio at Ft. Sam. If you count 1-87 up the hill, and maybe the Nurses. But looking at 232nd, I was lied to as well.
Just like at NTC where "There is a beautiful woman behind every tree" |

Well, I guess I see your point. I don't see the need to spend the money to send a PS Soldier through the process again, and I think talking about it is probably a bit easier than actually doing it. But hey, atleast you're willing to do it. That says something, and I thank you for doing it. |

I have just enlisted in Army as 68W !!! Anyways, i've heard that AIT for 68W isn't easy at all. My question is, how can I prepare myself for AIT, maybe I could read some books ??? I'm shipping out for BASIC on 20100120
Thanks in advance |
