Don't get mad if this is a dumb question, but what assigments, if any, would be restricted to women medics? For example, I would assume women would not be put in an infantry unit as med support, right?
When my son was in Iraq with a infantry division, most of the medics in the med company of the support battalion were women. While most were stationed at the brigade's FOB, they also did rotations at the smaller battalion FOBs.
The only medics I would think that would be restricted for women would be SF medics....SOAR medics... RANGER BATTALION medics...Civil Affairs team medics...
each of these would have to take the SOCM course to become medics with these units.

More loosely interpreted, "line unit" means any combat or combat support unit: arty, engineers, armored, attached aviation, etc.
Us "combat service support" types are usually referred to as REMFs, even though there's not much of a rear echelon any more, except maybe Bahrain, Kuwait and Europe.
