First off, I just wanted to introduce myself since I'll probably be around here a lot from now on. I was just branched into the Medical Service Corps which I'm really excited about and now I guess it's time for me to make my list of locations in which I'd like to be stationed so I'd like your opinions.

I know that in other branches, your location a lot of the times will determine what kind of unit you get put into and I don't know if that is the case with the MSC but if so, I'd really like to be a PL of a medical platoon within an infantry or armor battalion if at all possible. Out of these locations I have to list 10 and 4 of them must be OCONUS, so given all of that information and you're personal preferences and experiences, just give me some advice on how you would rank themor any other insight you may have. Thanks!

CONUS
Ft. Benning
Ft. Bragg
Ft. Campbell
Ft. Carson
Ft. Drum
Ft. Hood
Ft. Irwin
Ft. Knox
Ft. Lewis
Ft. Polk
Ft. Riley
Ft. Sam Houston
Ft. Sill
Ft. Stewart

OCONUS
Alaska
Germany
Hawaii
Korea

Ft. Sam Houston is pretty much the center of the Army's medical world (that and Walter Reed), so you won't find many combat or combat support elements in either place. All of the other posts and areas listed have more diverse Army elements.

If you like cold weather, avoid Benning, Bragg, Hood, Irwin, Polk, Stewart and - obviously - Hawaii.

If you like hot weather, avoid Carson (summers are hot but dry, so don't feel as hot), Drum and Lewis (generally).

Borderline places with variable weather are Campbell, Knox and Sill.

Alaska: cold. Germany: cool to cold but temperate. Hawaii: tropical. Korea: cold.

If you're flexible, the rest is up to you. YOU have to define what would be "great" for you and what would suck. A great unit and job, usually, can make up for sucky weather, and a lousy unit and job can make even Paradise seem like Hell.

Your call.

Korea not just cold its ficking hot as hell in summer. I like your second choice as I am a Bragger... Korea is a good learning option too because most likely you will end up ina medical battalion and since there is a real world mission going on there it is good MSC expierence... I was in 168 medical batallion... there we had evac platoon and treatment platoon in our company.. I suggest you ask fro evac if they ask you hahaha. My LT loved it and afterword he went on to fort cambell and has a medical platoon there....
