I'm leaving for Ft. Sam 68W school this coming Wed.. I'm going POV. Being prior service, is there any leniency as to time off, and what is the conditions like for a prior service JOE in Ft. Sam? Thanks.

depends on the company. you'll get weekends off for the most part. you live in the barrack with the iets; but in the in the squad bay theres a 4 man room where our prior service lived. some companies have too many for that setup so they just bunk up in the bay. some barracks are oooold but drink water and drive on. haha. anyways best of luck to you, its a great school minus the bs.

women will be housed in the 4 person dorm rooms. Bravo co. had its own barracks just for prior service (and holdovers). Depends on the Co. You will get more free time after the first week. Dismissed early and not reporting back until PT formation the following Monday is somewhat normal. Just DONT get caught with IET in your POV! You will get art. 13 for that. Lot of homewrok, so take your car and go to the library at night to study. Stay motivated!

I went through Ft Sam back in 1972 and to the advance course in 1983. I went back last year for my sons wedding and it has changed much over the years. In 1972, for 91A training, we lived in WW2 barracks on bunk beds. Went through training all day in connexes or in the woods. We were off in the evenings and weekends. The academy was just breaking ground when I was there. I spent alot of time studying but had lots of fun in downtown on my time off. In the advance course, we stayed in a 3 story concrete bldg. we were also off at night and weekends. Spent my time off running around the post and some time downtown. I am sure you will enjoy your experience there. It will always home to all of us medics.
