Cool stuff, Gunny! Have you ever gotten to fire off those C4-thingies? That looks like a blast. Must be cool to be part of the ABV's integration into the fleet.

I've fired the trailer mounted line charge towed behind an AAV before. Haven't had the opportunity to shoot one off the ABV. Same charge, rocket, clearance capabilities etc just a different platform. I'm currently trying to lock a range and demo allocation so my students here can do a line charge shoot as part of their training here at Knox.
Its been a blessing and a curse helping to bring this thing into the FMF. Time will tell if I stay with it (ABV) when my time comes to leave here. |

I'd imagine being in Kentucky might be a factor for most. |

Kentucky isn't so bad. I was alluding to the fact that my 1372 MOS is a skill designator. My primary MOS is 1371 which means I can be assigned wherever the Corps needs a 1371 GySgt. I can't stay at Knox forever, gots to move sometime.

My old AAV platoon was MCM platoon....Mobility Counter Mobility Platoon...
We did the lane breaching with our AAV's...we had 3 MK144's I believe...its been a while so I forget the designation..but we had 3 C4 tubs in the back of our AAV's with the rocket motors...it was pretty cool to have so much firepower in one AVV...we were rolling grenades.... Basically the ABV is a MCLC trailer on treads....I hope it gets fielded.... Those C4 tubs dont always work though....the rocket sometimes doesn't pull the cable hard enough to arm the C4, or the arresting cable broke.....so the combat engineer sometimes had to go out and do the "Medal of Honor run" and place some helper charges/blasting caps to get it going........ but yeah CAX was always fun because we were always the rock stars of the show.....everyone wanted to see the lane be cleared....the coyotes loved it. Brings back memories.... |

Oh its getting fielded, I've got the 3 here and 2 more are at Aberdeen. The Fuse on the MICLIC went through a design change a few years back so those problems aren't as frequent. Line charge trailer on treads, yes, however we also can proof and mark the lane instead of sending Marines on foot through the breach. Thats the biggest plus of it right there. |
