In the news, I have only heard reports of HUMVEEs getting hit by EIDs. How much protection does the M1 Abrams provide against bombs and RPGs?

What was the significants for the guy they had circled in red. Was he an insurgent pretending to be a Marine or what? Seems weird that they would single him out to circle in a video like that.

I've seen some videos of M1's being hurt pretty bad, but still these are the enemy's premier AT weapons whether they primarily use them against Humvees (modern jeeps) or our tanks. Our loss rate compared to what we would have had in a war against a real, well trained, tank-armed enemy is negligible.

Folks,

I know it is ARMY magazine, but they had an article on this exact subject. The author (a US Army captain) stated an ABRAMS can really take a lick from most I.E.D.s but the bad guys during sand storms when they can't be observed and everyone stops driving and were taking common construction tractor "backhoes" like you use to install sewers, etc and digging huge holes near main roads and packing them with 152mm artillery shells (sometimes over 20) and wire them up over a mile away. Then they wait a week or two and use these huge I.E.D.s You can't armor a tank enough to take the HE power of over 20 152mm HE shells up close. You just can't. But trying to convince the defense experts on the news channels is next to impossible.
