I am finding that either I can't use the military coupon/discount codes, or that the flights/hotels just aren't that good of a discount compared to any other travel site... Anyone have good discounts sites that they have used?
I agree. Except a couple of hotel chains, when done on their web sites, I find that AARP and AAA rates are better. If you want miniltary discounts go direct to the hotel web sites. Most of the online travel agents do not provide this information.
There are no more military discounts. 10%?, ya, whatever - I can get that through negotiation 101 tactics. Try this;;;; Never book online. For hotels, just call and talk direct to manager - not possible over web reservations. Request a 30% Military discount. If he/she says no, kindly thank them and move on. If AI, ask for discount on Food or an upgrade ti VIP if they have it. Airlines - Good luck. Your biggest discount is to pack light and not pay an extra $25 for baggage. Use as guest and shop for airfare, at least theres no BS like in Orbtz or Expeda.
AFVC - Not what it appears to be. A wolf in sheeps clothing. $329 a week? C'mon poeple, we are not dumb. You will spend thousands on the mandatory AI. It's all a big time-share coax to get you into the resort and spend a lot of money and then get hustled to buy time share. They get your name and address and the solicitation will go one for the rest of your life at that address. You are your best travel agent. Use free voip and call the resorts yourself. All the online bookers have profit built in, they can never be lower than the hotel. Be kind, courtious, and respectful on the phone. When they turn me down for a 50% discount, I kindly ask if they have the phone number to the resort next door, because I heard they cater to 100s of military families and I want to pass the number along to 600 of my battalion buddies. The economy is down, vacationers are down, the resrots need the business, but they won't tell you that online. Matter foact, they do a reverse market on you and tell you to "Book now!" "Hurry, these prices won't last!" Lastly, I usually never go resort anyway. I have 3 kids, so that puts at 5 total and most resorts limit rooms to 4. Plus, I have a pet. We usually rent a condo or villa for a fraction of the cost and cook fresh food bought at the local market. Not sure if moderators will let me post my favorite condo rental sites, but just do a search for your city and you will be amazed that some villa/condo rentals are right at the resort! Then you can get there and negotiate with manager for some AI discounts or whatever. Happy hunting and remember...you have the money and you have the power to negotiate.
