I am currently a 20% disabled vet. Here's my issue...
I was able to go to college and get a degree, however it took several years and several degrees before I can truly afford to live. My student loans are about $70,000 and Sallie Mae wants me to start paying over $500 a month payment. I just can't afford that and at this point, they seem to be unwilling to work with me. Is there anyway to get a one time payoff from your monthly disability check so that I can either pay off my loan or at least put a huge chunk of it away. Or is there any way that I can get a refinance loan from the VA? Any help would be great. Please email me directly at voc1228@comcast.net Thanks Frank |

No there is no way to get a one time payout on your disability. It is against the law, including using a third party. The VA does not refinance education loans. They guarantee home loans. Why did you not use VA education benefits to go to school, or did you and then some?

Dave,
Thanks. I have an associates degree and part of a nursing degree before the VA stepped in to help. They told me no for a long time then decided to help. I just dont know where to turn. I've worked my credit score up above 700 and now if I cant pay my student loan, it will come crashing down... I'll keep playing the Lottery I guess...LOL Thanks Frank |

Finish the nursing degree and get a job. If you are an RN, you can easily make enough to pay back the loans.
