Re Birth, in my opinoun, there really hasnt been a stop to the old cold war. In that the competition between USSR and USA has continued. True, there was a warm period of aid to the splintered states, quickly aborted. Now we have criminal activity, penetrating flights to the borders of Britain, competiiton in the oil exploration industry, terrorist migration, lack of cooperation with roque states, support for nuclear proliferation, etc. As to the USA being ready, for a full blown confrontation, yes, we are capaable of the old MAD philosophy. Remeber we still patrol with the subs, as part of the old triad. As to continuing confrontation, competition, we excell in the enterprise, industrial, and entrepurneship arenas. The current USSR still has a long way to go here. Putin and Bush recognize the arena, maintain friendly ties, with a distance. Our future policies depend on the next election, givend the current crop of candidates, I would not be surprised to see us cowtow and lose the intitiave. end |
