Hi i am brand new to these forms and this is my first post.
I am currently 15 turning 16 in 2weeks and i am extremely interested in becoming a SWO. I want to know more about the day to day job experience and what i ah headed twords. Also i want to get into NROTC. I want to be a leader, travel the world, and represent our nation. Career choices, i would like to get into science, or psychology i love both, but i am willing to learn anything. My GPA from last year was a 3.333 top 50% of my school...i go to like one of the top 3 high schools in my state. I am a competitive swimmer and i am involved in many leadership roles. I am talking too much but i don't want to leave any info out. I am nervous for not getting into NROTC and losing my path to becoming a SWO, And i want to know from Active or retired SWO's what the life is like during active duty. All i have heard is the basic description of the job and that it is hard. but not what we do I want to hear PROS and CONS mainly cons, because those aren't really displayed. I Love the USA and i want to serve my country no matter what! sorry if i am posting in the wrong section or something...please re-direct me if i have done something wrong =D i am just a curious teen! God bless the USA and GO OBAMA! (Also considered the Marines as well...) |

Lead Mod Navy and Recconect America Forums catherine0830@msn.com Democracy will survive until the government figures out it can bribe the people with their own money. |
Start looking at the NROTC website. You need to start figuring out what the application needs, and what degrees you need to look at to up your chances of selection. 85% of those selected this year and beyond will be technical majors as defined by the Navy (the list is on the website) https://www.nrotc.navy.mil |

If SWO is what you really want to do, there are better fora to get decent gouge--all the day-to-day stuff you're looking for. Google sailorbob--that's a dedicated SWO haven. Just be sure to read around and not go in asking questions before you've actually tried researching your questions on their board.
If you want to go ROTC, good on you. That's how I did it, although I stayed as far away from SWO as I could get. I liked the idea of running a ship; I did not like the way I saw SWO's being treated, and how they treated each other. And how they treated me as a Midshipman. I found a different community that fit much better with my personality. My $.02: look for the good, but remember to look for the bad, so you know what you're getting into. One more thing, and I say this for your own good and not to be a dick. When you're asking questions to professionals, don't pull the silly teen thing with misspellings and mis-capitalizations. It's disrespectful. You're young, you're humble, you've got drive, and that's fantastic. You've definitely got that going for you, so don't give those professionals a reason not to like you. A lot of folks will hold it against you if they see a lack of effort in your posts. Now go forth, get good grades, don't do drugs, and get yourself a ROTC scholarship. |
