I know that many recruits have enumerated their experiences on this subject. Perhaps,a fresh Graduate can tell us the current environment in Great Lakes for the benefits of those who are close to joining.
Has food gone better or worse? Have sleeping hours been reduced? Are the Instructors meaner than they used to? Do Recruits shape up quicker nowadays? These and many other topics are welcomed. Ancient |

If someone is a recent graduate of RTC,hence NO way of knowing what "used to be", hence NO way to compare then and now, how the heck can they answer your questions? Millions have made it trough the various RTC the Navy has had and many more will. If you make it to RTC you will find out what it is like, but like I said you would have NO way of comparing your time there, againest those that did it before you. BoatsBM1 |

Boats is trying to help you out. In the Navy you are expected to research on your own, find your own answers, qualify on your own, etc. You will not be spoon fed information. Get used to it. Also, if you're concerned about politeness or niceness, you've picked the wrong job or you need to grow thicker skin. There is a sticky on the top stating that we expect you to look stuff up before asking, because basic questions such as these have been answered multiple times. It gets annoying for us to ansrew those over and over when the info is SO much more readily available than it was a few years ago even. Specific questions that are harder to find the answers to, you will get a much better response to. |

Perhaps, I should have made my self clear in what I was looking for. Of course, things have been discussed here and I have read countless threads. I was only interested to read more recent experiences namely, experiences from someone who might have graduated during the last few weeks. I hope that helps. Best Navy Wishes Ancient |

You have tried twice to supposedly 'make yourself more clear' but have still failed to do so. "Months", "Weeks". Whats next, days and or hours? Like I said before, the "Find" feature is your friend. Not all that have attended RTC,in the time periods you desire, were a part of these forums before they attended RTC. If some were a part of these forums before they attended RTC and came back here to impart their knowledge it could still be tainted,as they might thought their time there was the worst time of their life. Where as someone else may have thought it was the 'greatest thing since peanut butter'. If you get there you then will know how it was for YOU but NO one else but YOU. i graduated a little over a month ago. boot camp wasn't so bad. p days are obviously the worst few days of your life and you want to die and regret ever signing but once you get to like week 6 or 7, you look back and say wow, boot camp wasn't so horrible after all. the hardest part is being homesick and feeling isolated when you just want someone to talk to like your family. you never get used to that while your there. the chow is decent most days. no matter what, you get 8 hours from taps to rev. doesn't mean you get 8 hours of sleep but you get 8 hours of potetional (sp?) sleep. of course you need to stand watch or iron, its more like 5 or 6 hours and people never shut up neither. all 8 weeks, no one ever was quiet and you will get IT'd. at first it sucks but you get used to it. get used to the term, 'lock it up'. I ****ING HATE IT. and people still use it here in a school and i want to kill all of them, its so annoying.
there are a lot of days when you don't see the sun because classes, the galley and everything is in one building now, called your ship. we even pt'd in there. from what i've heard, everyone used to march to chow and march a lot more. not anymore. the sun would kill our eyes on the grinder, i hated it. you basically work the whole time for battle stations but i won't tell you about that, well i could tell ya, but then i'd have to kill ya. i just rambled on so if you have anymore direct questions, ask away, i don't mind |

You guys now have a seperate galley per "ship"? Classes are in the same building? Thats nuts.. We marched miles everyday to get back and forth from the galley, classes, etc. |

I know you're not supposed to answer questions unless you've been there, but I feel compelled to state the obvious.

p days last about 5 days unless you get there on a thursday like me and waiting for your division to fill up so it was more like 8 or 9 days. it just sucks because the rdc's just yell and ruin your life. its hard to explain. the first night there you will not sleep till the following night at 10 and that sucks too. chow will be hard to eat and it just sucks. its a lot of standing in line and doing everything wrong. just pay attention to detail.
yeah you make some pretty good friends at boot but don't trust anyone. people turn on your real quick, just a little heads up. the cool thing is though that everyone feels the same as you, you are not alone. chow is food, lock it up is a real annoying way of saying shut the f u ck up like those guys said. no one shuts up after taps till about 11 or 12 or till the officer of the deck comes in and ****s everyones night up. my rdc's were alright at differnet times. towards the end they would share stories and be ****ing hilarious. my cheif was real wise and taught us a lot. it all depends. and to fast break, yeah thats how it is now. we only marched to pt and fire fighting and random things. not to class or the galley |

This was too funny of a post war that went on here. Anyhow, I did have a question that I need to ask you since you are a recent grad of boot. I have used the Find feature and never got or found a clear answer (At least for the Navy, just Army answers)
The question is - Boxers or briefs? Can we were our own briefs there? Does color matter? If the answer is Navy issued boxers, can we wear our briefs under them? I cant stand boxers due to them riding up. If we can wear briefs under them, wheat color are the boxers so I can match them. Thanks in advanced. |
