Just took my asvab test and got a 99, and 140 GT score. Does anyone know if this would open more opportunities to me? Really interested in joining the navy nuclear program, but don't know if these scores would qualify me.

It depends more on your line scores than your overall score. That being said there are other things to be considered when thinking about the Nuke Program--mainly your ability to get a clearance.

As well as high school math and science scores, age, etc, etc.

Since Catherine was being nice today, I'll say it. Use the Find feature and you will discover a ton of information on becoming a nuke.

The overall score really doesn't mean crap.
Besides all the other things you must meet (no legal problem, no drug problems, no Pych problen, you still need to have at least these scores to go Nuke:
VE+AR+MK+MC+NAPT=290
or
AR+MK+EI+GS+NAPT=290
or
VE+AR+MK+MC=252
or
AR+MK+EI+GS=252

If the dude got a 99 I'm guessing that everything else would have to be high enough to go nuke. It's not like he could have a terrible score in one of those categories and still get a 99.

The problem isn't his scores. I actually put that out since most kids come here and say stuff like "I got a 53 on my test". Who care? Your overall test score means NOTHING. It's not used, except to see is you pass the minimum score of 35 to get in...

With Nuke, this guy has to worry about the other 24 pages of things he must pass. There is so much more to the Nuke rating than most kids think....

The offical rule book for all the Navy ratings can be found here....It shows scores, legal stuff and all the other stuff that you think is just a given.... ~http://www.navyfamilies.com/showthread.php?t=96

I used your last computation and my score came to 273. Do you think this is high enough for the nuke's program to consider me and at least get me started in the process of applying?

Should. Talk to a recruiter. As I said, there's more to it than that.

Also, use the find feature and search "nuke" and start reading so you can figure out if its really what you want.

Hope you like carbon dust......Wink!!!! DH and the little bro were both EM's, I was dubbed an "honorary" EM by my disvision.

At least you get a nice break between the schools. enjoy it. I know I did. standing watch every few days and sleeping on the beach the rest of the time was rough! lol.

Thanks Boats!!!....I kind-of fat fingered that part.

As Catherine said "Should. Talk to a recruiter. As I said, there's more to it than that". Beleive me, she is 100% correct on that. The test score is only one small part of becoming a Nuke. There is so much other crap you need to pass too.

Stec,
Vol 4 change 2 only has one important thing for Nukes added which is "2. Have you received an overall GPA of less than 2.0 or “C” equivalent in your junior or senior year of high school?"

You're talking about Vol4 change 2 released 12 Nov 2008? Correct?

They have made it a bit more of a job being on T-track. We normally stand 12 on 24 off. As we get more people that should get down to 6 hour watches consistantly I hope.

I did 12-24, 12-48 after the next class graduated. initially, it was straight 12-24's. Slept on the beach in both cases at Isle of Palms. Didn't matter to me really. I love the ocean and was nice break before power school.

My now DH was on barraks duty the whole time. no watch, but in the long run less time on the beach.
