Scored a 94. Haven't picked a rate yet, but I am leaning toward AC or AB and have also thought about AE or AT.

RANT ON Mad

Most of you that have answered the posters question don't even have a RATE yet, just as he does not have one either.

And the Active Duty ones that answered, except for the one that put his 'rating and rate' in his signature, did not answer the question correctly either.

In the Navy "Rate" means what 'pay grade' you are,ie; somewhere from E1-E9.

"Rating" is what you job specialty is,ie; IT,STG,BM,EO,AO ,etc, etc, etc.

I have seen the above mistakes going on here on these forums more and more lately and just finally had to B I T C H about it.

If you were to be asked in Boot Camp what your "rate" was and you answered, for example,
AO, you would have just flunked the one question test.

BM1,
I have never heard it put like that, must be a black shoe thing. Big Grin

How about it like this, there is Rank and Rate, your rate is BM1, your rank is E-6 and your Rating is Boatswainmate. So if you would as some one what their rate was and they said AO1 then that answer it correct. That is how it is taught in the aviation side.

point taken! thank you for clarifying. seems people always say 'rate' when they mean 'rating'.

sooo... my ASVAB score is 88, and my rating is BU, correct? i'll have a 'rate' after boot, yes?

Jess,

Your rate right now is SR, you will not be a BU until after A school then you will be a BUCR. Wink
