OP, to indulge your question; if you are talking about LCACs (Landing Craft, Air Cushion), then yes, OS is one of the ratings that LCAC "pilot" is available to. You cannot get it guaranteed when you join and you pretty much have to be a cream of the crop PO2 or above to get LCAC "school" if I recall correctly. (at least back in the early 90s) As far as the rest of the rating's responsibilities, the job is a blast for the most part. You work in the "brain" of the ship, Manning navigational and weapons systems RADAR scopes, plotting courses, Radio Comms, etc. I enjoyed it. You pretty much know everything that is going on with the ship any given day out at sea. Also, there are some excellent C schools available as you make rate like Air Intercept Controller (like AC but you bring jets together instead of keep them apart  )and LCAC. There are alot others now that I am not as familiar with. One of the very few regrets I have was not accepting my re-enlistment offer of LCAC school after my original 4 yrs...getting out and going to college was more important to me at the time.
