Hello, what is the average time it takes for a medical waiver to be approved or denied? I was at MEPS three weeks ago, at the time my recruiter told me it would take about two weeks for everything to be sent to Raleigh and be reviewed. He hasn't been picking up the phone or answering any messages so I'm in the dark and I've read about some taking a days to months.
I need three medical waivers, which feels like a long shot, even though they are all well documented and minor. (One bout of asthma at age 7, Being prescribed ritalin for a week at age 5, and mild pectus excavatum)But with the Navy apparently being overmanned and short on jobs, I don't fell it's looking good.
If anyone could give me a ballpark estimate on how much longer I can expect to wait, it would be much appreciated. Lastly, what factors determine who gets a medical waiver and who doesn't? Do they look at ASVAB scores, legal history, and high school/college GPA etc.?
Waivers used to take 2-3 months for approval (to Millington, TN not Raleigh). However, they are now being sent by email and I understand the process is somewhat faster. Bottom line is it will take how long it takes. If you have not had a consult for pulmonology for a methocoline challenge test you can expect one to be requested.
Thanks, I haven't done anything since MEPS, l'll ask my recruiter about a methocoline challenge test. I assume that's a mandatory requirement for asthma waivers, are there any others?
They're waiting for the new fiscal year before sending me back to MEPS. Things are looking better now, according to my recruiter the only thing stopping me from joining is a medical examination that I'm confident I'll pass.
Sounds as if you have not had your physical at MEPS yet? If that is the case then you will likely be disqualifeid at MEPS and then you just need to hope that the MD there recommends a waiver. They may send you out for consults at that time depending on many factors.
DOn't get your hopes up due to a new FY. That has no bearing on medical waivers being approved or dissapproved.
Sorry, I assumed it would be at the same place as MEPS, so it sounded like I've never gone through the physical.
I've already had my physical and I've been told the waiver(requests?) had already been sent. My current situation is: The navy is waiting for the new fiscal year to have money to send me to a doctor to verify whether or not asthma/adhd/pe is an issue, and if that doctor gives me the green light I'll get to join.
