I am a 24 year old cancer survivor in EXCELLENT health. I have no lasting effects of my cancer or treatment, but I'm concerned about my chances of getting in. I have been in remission for 2 and a half years and gave my recruiter written recommendations from both doctors that saw me through treatment. I have dreamed of being a navy diver since childhood. If it helps, my cancer was stage 4, of the nasophayrnx. I am aware that most cancers are DQ, but my recruiter said he has gotten survivors in. Anyone have experience in the subject? Again, this has been a dream since childhood, so my nerves are a little worn!
I just looked at the Navy recruting manual. Looks like you will have to be cancer free for 5 years so you are half way there. Double check with your local recruiter though as my regs may be slightly out of date.
Thank You! My fingers are crossed. I'm not sure how long the survivors he signed up were in remission, but it's great to hear that it's not an automatic no. I've seen so many recruits on these boards DQ'd for so much less, I was slightly discouraged. Thanks again for your input!
