Hello,

I just had a question about officers and how they pick thier job they want to do. Are their like CTI or CTN officers? or is it just a basic Intel Officer who got assigne that position? Also if I were to join and get into a CTI or CTN rating, go through my schooling and then after about a year apply to OCS and get accepted, how would that work? would they put be back in the job I had trained for or would they put you somewhere else?

Thanks,

Officers don't have ratings. They have designators. And you are not concidered field experts really, more managers. So, Intel officer covers a MUCH broader filed than CTI or CTN.

Designator is based on your preferences and their needs.

Do you have your degree? What exactly are you looking for?

Yea I have a degree, I was just curious how it works is all. So If you became and Intel officer and wanted to be in the field of a CTI or CTN and already had experience like I was saying before, is that generally where they would put you or would they just stick you in and intl field that they needed someone in?

Thanks,

the Officer Community that deals with CTx is IWO: Information Warfare. Johnny_B is one. Stalk his posts. Wink

several former CTIs are now IWOs, (LDO, Warrant or RL.)

CTN is too new for me to know how that breaks out..DIRSUP KORLING is a former CTI who is now a CTN, he'll be able to tell you if there are any CTN LDOs or Warrants.

CTN might actually be IP( Information Professional) but that is NOT currently open to initial accessions, only to redesignators.

and as a CTI you would pretty much never use your language skills as a an Officer at all. DH's( Johnny_b) first XO was a former RULING.

I don't know about the intel officer career path, but as Catherine said officers are more generalists who manage a certain field, whereas enlisted are the technical specialists. You could work with CTIs/CTNs, and though with most things in the Navy they try to work with your preferences, ultimately your job assignment will be based on the Navy's needs.

At this point your best bet is to go talk to an officer recruiter for more information.

CTNs work for IWOs, just like the rest of the CT ratings. In fact, ALL the sailors that currently work for me are CTNs.

ITs work for the IPs.

The CTNC in our shop that was selected for CWO will be an IW CWO (7440 designator).

Just as a point some of the people asking the questions don't know the lingo yet so can we spell out what RULING, KORLING ect means for em.
I get confused with all the abreviations.
Thanks
