If you are looking for information about the specific rating in which you are going into or considering, do as much research on your own. Try using the FIND feature (3rd button at the top of the forum) or research other websites.

It is much easier to get specific type of questions answered after you have done your homework, than to post something so vague as "tell me about ______ rating".

Every job has high and low points, every perspective is different. Having patience goes a long ways and by the time you get through schooling, you will have a better understanding of what you are going into.

Please do your homework and get as much information as possible before asking such general questions.

Also keep in mind that we can only give you information about ratings from our perspective based on the platform we were assigned to. For example an FC on a carrier will be working with much different equipment than an FC on an Aegis small boy. Even rates that are fairly stable such as YN can do much different things in a squadron or a CB battalion than they do on a ship or sub.

I am planning on joining the navy and I have many interests in different rankings. I have always wanted to be a scientist (research studies, lab experiments, development of new things, etc.). I have looked up many rankings mainly the nuclear field, but most seem more like maintenance men than scientists. Do you have any suggestions on rankings that might fit the scientist bill and possibly in the nuclear field.

DC2: Damage Controlman E-5. Second Class Petty Officer. Referred to as "Chips" since this rating replaced Carpenter's Mates decades ago.

USN from 1961-1969.
