Not trying to sound helpless from getting info, but I need someone with same situation on feedback or advise...
Talked to more than 6 different recruiters this year and it is amazing how 3 of them have different answers. My deal has been rough. Talking to recruiters with all different views is not easy.
I am Prior Navy with an RE5 (good reserve discharge)reenlistment code. In 1998 went into the Army and got set out during basic with an RE3 due to fitness test issues. Army stated 2 year wait and can reenlist.
Now, today...I have an RE5 from the Navy and an RE3 from the Army.. Anyone been through similiar situation???
Can the RE3 be waived 10 years later with no medical problems.
New physical was taken at MEPS in June of this year. Doctor signed off as PASSED with NO physical problems.
Other than recruiters...any advise out there....always thanks in advance....no luck with recruiters even within a 4 state radious when they all seem to have different answers about the same NAVY and some in the same zone..
Would appreciate any help....just waiting till they began looking at Priors again, hoping very soon....
Your Re3 is what will be considered for enlistment purposes. With a failed PRT you will have to pass one prior to submitting a waiver and it will be difficult to get a recruiter to work with you.
I am currently trying to reenlist in the Navy myself. I received an RE-3P from the Navy 10 yrs ago. The medical problems that i had no longer are an issue. I was cleared by a doctor and also cleared to join the AF reserves. Went to MEPS in earlier this month and the doc recommended me for a waiver, even though I have been in the reserves and medical problems are no longer an issue.
Hey William, It was not a failed PRT. It was a medical issue that can up during a run that no longer exist as of today and was notated on the physical at MEPS this year.
The Doctor stated all is good to go at MEPS...but does the RE3 still have to have a waiver through a MED Board even if the Doctor at MEPS gave a pass on the physical for the NAVY, stating no medical problems??
Very similar situation here. I have 2 Army RE-3's one for actice duty and one for the Guard. The one for Active Duty I'm ashamed of as I dropped out of boot camp but the one for the Guard was just a complete case of bad timing and joining at a time in which I could not follow through with the obligation. Never went to any training or drill or anything just got a bad wrap out of the deal. So all the brass see when they look at my case is 2 re-3's and boom my kit is thrown in the shredder. Yet Since noth of those I've obtained a college degree and acquired very applicable knowledge in the world of IT. Belive it or not my biggest problem with getting in is finding a recruiter willing to try and put me in. The last one I could find was in 2006 and that was cause he had been doing it for so long and was getting out soon. What are u gonna do besides keep hoping I guess....

Very basic situation also is that you couldn't hold up your end of the contract either, twice (despite circumstances), and now you expect others to go forth an extra mile for you now.
Your best bet would be to look into civilian careers and put the military behind you.
My code is RE3P. I have gone through the MEPS and the doctors there recommended me for a waiver after I went to the consults they scheduled for me. The Navy then granted me the waiver and I am reenlisting. It isn't impossible to come back in but every situation is different. (If you have outstanding ASVAB scores that probably helps)
Captain Tass, when did you re-enlist...I keep getting told...that the Navy is still not taking Prior Service. When did they approve your waiver and when are you going back in?

I am prior service but I'm not a veteran. I was in the Marine Corps. I graduated from boot camp but I was medically discharged during A school. I totaled 177 days of active service, 3 less than the requirement for vet status (maybe that is why they are letting me in, I dunno). All of my waivers (formerly gimpy knee, LASIK surgery and dependents) were granted in September. I am now waiting to go back to the MEPS to sign papers and swear in. My ASVAB score was a category 1 so maybe that factored into the Navy's thinking but I can't be sure. Honestly, I think it just depends on finding a recruiter who thinks you will be an asset to the Navy and will be willing to slog through the bureaucratic mud with you. I was lucky to have a great recruiter.
Captain Tass, just wondering what RANK they are bringing you back as and thanks for your feedback. I just keep hoping for a good answer by end of the month. I never got the chance to speak with the CO in my district and found out she will not let Priors back in so I went to another distict that will.....

Not a problem.
Since I didn't have 180 days or more of AD service I think the navy considers me a new recruit. In other words, I get the enlistment bonus, I get to choose my rating and I also have to attend boot camp. When boot camp is done I will be an E3 but that is because of referrals.
