So, I'm thinking about signing up. If someone could give me some information about joining the Navy it would be greatly appreciated. Hmmm.....there are so many questions to ask, where do I begin?

Well, for starters, what are the requirements for passing basic?

Which jobs are in high demand?

I'd like to be stationed in San Diego since I have family and own a home here. Will I be asked by my recruiter or MEPS where I want to be stationed? I understand that there will be times where I need to travel/deploy, but I would like home station to be San Diego.

Which jobs are most likely to be needed in San Diego?

If there is deployment or assignments away from home station, how long do they last?

I'm a college student with a bunch of credits, but no degree. I have about 8 years experience in a call center environment doing customer service, sales, and being a 411 operator. Which jobs will be a fairly easy transition for me? Although, I'll tell ya, I'm getting tired of working in this cubicle of mine. I wouldn't mind being a cook or mechanic!

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

P.S. Please forgive my ignorance if some of the questions seem idiotic.

Learning to keep your eyes open and your mouth shut, as well as a PFT.

Worry first about what you may or may not qualify for. If you don't find that what you're doing now is fulfilling, why would you want a similar job? Why not branch out and learn a skill instead.

The Mod anwered your questions very directly and to the point. I would like to add my two cents if I may being a booter and all.

1)To pass basic I followed what is already posted here. Keep your mouth shut, until spoken to and if you must speak do it short to the point and respectfully. Basically think of Forest Gump and you will be ok. The RDC are never wrong, you are never right and every question will get you an RDC yelling in your face but its better to be sure. BTW navy fact, if you screw up, you will get yelled at. Physically wise, it depends on your age but if you can bust out like 60 push ups, 70 sit ups and run like a 10 minute mile and a half you should be fine. Ofcourse always strive to be better.

2)about being stationed or your dream sheet. Navy fact, its not what you what it is what the navy needs. If your wants and their needs are the same then you broke big. You can put a million places but if they need you in a hut on the artic that is where you are going.

3)When choosing a job you can have up to 5 picks, like the mod said, chose something you are interested in even if you have never experienced it before. The navy will train you. Even if you come in with a job you know, civilian and military are way different. Once more, its not what you want, its what they need.

I hope my info helps and remember, its not you know but what you can prove. Get it in writing, get a signature make lots of copies.

Very respectfully
