Is this boring. From What I heard it is. I don't mind, im sure it is what u make of it. But i also heard that if u want to ship out quickly then this is where you go--any validity to that?

Couldn't say if thats true or not as far as shipping early goes.
FTS is like any job in the military, it has its good points and bad points, but that usualy depends on the person. USS Liberty, Never Forget. I believe in Murrays Law, he thought Murphy was an optimist. |

I am an FTS PS3. FTS (formerly TAR) is an unusual animal. I am not a member of the Active Duty Navy, nor am I a Selected Reservist. The best way to describe what I am is a full time member of the Navy Reserves. I have an active duty contract and I receive all the same benefits and pay of my active duty counterparts. However, I work almost exclusively for the Navy Reserves at NOSCs (Reserve Centers) or Reserve Ships/Squadrons. I say almost exclusively because I can fill certain general and active billets according to the "needs of the Navy." Like Gerry said, it has it's good points and bad points. You are part of a smaller community, and depending on your rate advancement can be a challenge. There is less opportunity to go to sea because there are less Reserve ship billets. So it can be boring if you spend your entire career "NOSC hopping" as we call it...jumping from Reserve Center to Reserve Center without ever going to sea, IA, etc. Thats fine if that is your thing, but if you want to do some pretty amazing things than like Gerry said it will be what you make it. If you have any more questions let me know. |

I was an FTS YN1 for 10 years. Enjoyed the experience, no regrets.

The FTS community is actually growing on me. When I first got to the NOSC I was really restless because I was fresh out of Boot and I really wanted to hit the ground running. So after three months I volunteered for IA. Going operational for a year cured my restlessness (for now). It's definitely a unique experience. Handling the careers of Navy Reservists can be tricky. Dealing with the ones that want everything handed to them on a silver platter with little to no effort from their end can be frustrating. It's always about what the Navy needs to do for them, but come mobilization time they find any excuse in the world not to go. On the other hand, there are some really squared away Reservists who are an absolute pleasure to work with. They care about their careers and their units overall performance. They are engaging and appreciative and they make the job worth it for me. |

Can i choose which NOCS i go to? Id love to stay in Florida either at Key west, tampa, or Jacksonville. Id hate to be stuck inland the whole time. and how often do you hop around to different NOCSs? |
