I think it is better to come to the conclusion to change your mind now rather then after you have shipped. You can cancel your contract it won't be easy, because your recruiter has put in a great deal of time getting you in so prepare yourself for his or her response. I don't beleive it will have a negative effect for the potential of future enlistment 2yrs from now, however it will make it more challenging the next go around...It's your life right now and your still in the drivers seat, don't hesitate go see your recruiter!

You can request it by submitting a DAR but the needs of the Navy come first and you can not be in DEP for longer than 365 days.

I've heard of people just not going, but I don't know how true that is. I would think that you would have to have a pretty good reason as to why you don't want to come in at this time. I would suggest that if you do have to come in, don't try to 'fail' boot, that doesn't really help out anything, they will just push you back to another div. I'de think that if you talk to you recruiter he/she may help you. But like I said you have to have a good reason.

WHY???

Is this a case of cold feet? Did you not do your homework prior to signing the contract? What is the reason for you to want to get out? It really maybe difficult for you to get back in in a year or two. Quitting now only shows you know how to quit. Why should the Navy take a second chance on you in the future. If you can't commit now, what reason shows you are willing to commit in the future.

Take a looooong hard look at the reasons for you wanting to quit and make damn sure they are really a valid reason. Is it really worth throwing so much away for?

The reason i wanna cancel it that I've finished my associate's degree and completed one semester in University. I decided to give up for getting bachelor's degree originally and join in the navy. But after i signed it and many friends and relatives knew and do not support me to join navy without bachelor's degree. They think it is very regrettable to quit from university where i already get started. These days make me very annoyed. I struggle with education and military a lot. Finally, i changed my mind to complete my next total of 15 classes first towards a BA degree. I don't wanna i will reget after i join or fail at boot camp.
I will talk with my recruiter next week.
God bless!!!

The question is how much is taking those 15 classes going to cost you and is it worth it?

Based off of the writing in your last post you may be better served by enlisting now and working on your degree later.

Why go thousands of dollars in debt to get an education you can receive for free?

BING BADA BOOM!!!

OP, as I tell most folks here, this is your life and your decision to make, not your friends nor family. While you may value their input, they are not the ones living your life.

As Stec mentions here, why pay for an education and get further in debt when you can work on college courses while serving AND then have the military pay for your education. Along with that, the beauty of the military is that you don't need a bachelors degree to be effective. If officer is in your goals, there are programs to obtain that and quitting now and looking for officer in the future, probably wouldn't help.
If that isn't your aspiration, then your associates would help you to obtain a higher paygrade prior to going in.

In my honest opinion, attending college would not make you a better sailor and as a matter of fact, those who are prior service tend to be better students. The core values of the service offer many aspects employers look for AND the military trains you for a job. Not like college where you may not end up in a field your degree is in. You may find yourself a new sailor with a huge college debt to pay off, when if you stayed with your committment to the contract you already signed, you will get experience, core values, discipline, and the opportunity to work on college courses. THen you can get out and obtain that degree with the military paying you to go to school. To me, that is a much better situation.

Another thing to concider: are the degree you are getting and/or the GPA competitive for officer selection later?

It's your life, not theirs, and your decisions to make. Jobs without degrees can pay well sometimes too (ie Nuke), and in a weakening job market having a skill to fall back on is sometimes very helpful.

PS Addressing the above financial concerns.....look into the NROTC college program and BDCP. They'll pay for your school while you finish and you'll get a comission out of it, if YOU are really concerned about finishing a degree first. Contact an officer recruiter about those programs, you may or may not be competitive.

As said, though, many finish bachelors degrees and/or masters degrees on active duty either through comissioning programs such as STA-21 or through working on it on their own time.

Please do us all a favor and change your profile from active duty navy to something else. It is a bit offensive to those of us who have served to see someone listing themselves as active when they are trying to back out of their contract.

Also you might consider proof reading your posts. Your grammer is horrible.
