Hopefully I can ask this in a way that is understandable- here goes.
In speaking with the recruiter he mentioned that an AO can be "carrier assigned" or "squadron assigned". My understanding of that is the "squadron assigned" AO's are like a member of the squadrons "pit crew" (so to speak) and go wherever (land or sea) the squadron is deployed. And that a "carrier assigned" AO is more connected to the ship than the aircraft. I've seen on the Navy Rating Description page on about.com they have two AO listings- Aviation Ordnanceman, and Aviation Ordnanceman (Aircrew). So, my first question is--Does the (Aircrew) next to the AO designate the "squadron assigned" AO's? Second question is-- Does the Navy differentiate between AO and AO (Aircrew)on the NAVCUIT 1133/52 FOR SCHOOL GUARANTEE, or is the option to be AO (Aircrew) as opposed to AO decided at a later time- such as at, or after A school? Third Question-- For those current, previous, or otherwise knowledgeable of you out there- could you please enlighten me on the positives or negatives between the two AO options. Thanks to all for any insight you may be able to share on this. |

Aircrew rates is now AW, AOs are no longer aircrew and those that were are being changed to AWs. If you want Aircrew you need to ask your recruiter to check with MEPS to see if you qualify. As for AO click on the find feature or look at the Aviation forums. There are several posts related to AO.
