On 2009/08/06 I signed my contract and swore in for the NAVY at the MEPS in Raleigh, NC. In finding out that CTI and all else Intel were not available, I went ahead and chose AC as my future. I am very excited to get this choice, though I understand that until I graduate boot camp, I shouldn't get ahead of myself. My question is can anyone tell me some info on AC? I have done a bit of research on the job and have asked my recruiter extensively about the position, but would like to know what you guys know as well.

-I know its a very stressful job, not to be taken lightly at any point during my shift.

-I understand that I will be closely supervised, will work with a very close team in airfield towers and aircraft carriers.

-I read about the 70% shore/30% sea duty.

-16 weeks in Pensacola, FL for training

-I am going in as E-3 (college grad but got less than a 3.0 GPA)

-4 year contract with 12mo extension due to schooling.

I hear its a hard job to get into, and math and quick thinking are important. I had my heart set on intel but this job is growing on me more and more as i think of the possibilities if i decided to leave after my enlistment. I know its something I have to decide for myself, but would you guys stick with this or reclassify after taking the dlab and getting CTI (if you were to pass and the position was available of course)

The GPA really doesn't matter. Except for certain special positions (and officers, of course), the Navy doesn't award higher than E-3 based on college work. You would have received E-4 (SPC) in the Army but E-3 is as high as you were going to get in the Navy, even with a 4.0 GPA.

I have always thought ATC would be an interesting and exciting career. For me, that dates back to when I read "Airport" as a teenager. If I had been thinking career aspirations when I went through classification, I might have asked for the AC rating.
