My recruiter just told me that the whole entire navy is no longer accepting applicants for active duty. Only reserve applicants will be taken until further notice. Could this be true? I took asvab and physical and was waiting on him to hand in my packet to classifier and thats when he tells me no more active duty. Someone please tell me he is lying....

Recruiters don't lie. The navy has been considered overmanned in most ratings and have been meeting their recruiting goals well before the end of the year. So, in effect, they aren't really taking applications. However, that doesn't mean to give up. The end of the fiscal year ends at the end of September so basically it all starts over on Oct. 1st. So ask your recruiter if you can continue to work out with him until then. They will appreciate your effort.

Someone may have responded sooner, but the terroristic gremlins attacked the mainframe.

So the whole Navy is not taking applications? yeah....somehow I doubt that because there are still in demand and undermanned ratings like nuke etc. It may depend upon what one qualifies for, but to say the whole Navy is not taking new people sounds far fetched.

I don't know where anyone got the idea that recruiters don't lie, all recruiters may not lie but many do at least for one thing or another.

As far as the navy not taking any more, well that could be true for the rest of this month seeing that the new fiscal year begins next month and with that comes the new budget. I flat out asked a recruiter about the downsizing and he told me no, rather certain jobs were being combned. His example was that of a admin.

You're right. it's not downsizing. It's force shaping (which looks like downsizing, but sounds cooler and forces those who cant perform out)

and priors have little to no chance of entry

Only if Congress passes a new DoD budget between now and then.

And when it comes to "force shaping"/"down sizing" ,the Navys part of the proposed 2010 DoD
budget shows a proposed "End Strength",for enlisted personnel, of less than 1000 difference between the 2009 and the 2010 budgets.

1000 person force reduction is about 4 less recruits a day nationwide based on 250 work days a year. And 50-100 will be officers.

i'm meeting with my recruiter on the 23rd and now i'm considered a os vet because i got my 368 from the ng but in 04 i was in the reserves and lost my job and went to a homeless shelter where they wouldn't let me use the phone to call the reserve center (long distance) and was put in irr and not recommended for re-affilation with the navy/reserves should i go back to the res. co and ask him to reconsider his position because in my packet is that bad drilling status paperwork so i have a way to try to conter act it ? because the final say is in millington and where can i learn more about this full time support status ?

Waiting until that date will not change a thing. From my understanding things are going to be as tight as they are right now at least until February.

The ratings that are still being recruited for are those top rates that have high level of failure such as, Nuke and Special Warfare. Other than that the Navy is not looking for other rates. This is not going to change in October. They have enough recruits to keep the schools full for well over a year. I as a Nuke in DEP(Delayed Entry Program) even had to wait from February to November to ship.

From what I understand the concerns about the economy have encouraged both higher retention rates as well as a flood of new recruits. If you are dead set on joining the military and getting in anytime soon you will have to look somewhere other than the Navy.

I am talking with a new recruiter since my old recruiter moved offices over an hour away. My new recruiter says that even with the new fiscal year coming up, its still going to be very difficult to get a job in the Navy, unless I go special warfare, or nuke. So when I retake my ASVAB I'm hoping to get a good enough score to qualify for Nuke or SEAL, or something special warfare. The Navy definitely is still taking people, so don't let anyone tell you different.

Do you know what the minimum score you have to get to go nuke and do you also know where there is a list of nuke jobs to pick from ?

You should not be hijacking other threads but rather start your own, particularly since the other one you hijacked was months old.

Use the Find button at the top of the post and search for nuke and nuclear field. You will find days worth of reading including the minimum scores. You will not, however, find a list of nuke jobs to pick from. Unless you ask for MM (as noted in another nuke related post recently), you will be assigned to one of the three nuke field ratings based on the luck of the draw and needs of the Navy.

sorry don't know about this thread stuff pretty computer illierate but as i read it seemed like this was a place to ask questions about priors trying to go back active and the questions we have and i also don't understand the use of hijack ? and if no one posts things for months are you supposed to start another topic with the same question ? not sure i get that ? and also do you know when they switched the age for priors to have 20 in before 60 to 20 in before 55 ? a time line would be great thanks

Normally you would start a new thread with your questions. However, as was stated the minimum test scores is on here in another thread.

But, based on your other posts even if you had the minimum nuke score you won't get it. Age cut-off for the rating is 27. Also, Even if the Navy waives your National Guard snafu, and your prior serrvice for entry, I don't see NR waiving it.

Wow, someone who is computer illiterate wanting to join one of the most challenging technical programs in the Navy. I do not know what the program is like today, but in 1976 it was hard work and very technical. If you are not into technology, math and science, nuke is not for you.
