2. When looking for a job, do I have to tell my potential employers that I'm leaving June 1st? Because if I were the employer, I wouldn't want to hire someone if I knew they were leaving. However as I said before, I have a wife and 2 kids, so I have to work.
Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I can't seem to get a straight answer out of my recruiter so this is pretty much "what I got". Thanks in advance!
Right now the Navy and military in general is not hurting for people, including nukes. The reason you have a ship date is because that is when there should be a class starting shortly after you finish boot. The only way for you to move up is if someone else drops out...and then it probably goes by other people like who who requested first. I can't say for sure on that, but reality is there is really noone out there that you can beg, plead, and cry to to get in any earlier. Sometimes you have to wait for the paperwork monster to works its course and it really doesn't care about personal issues.
As for looking for a job, no, you don't have to tell a potential employer you are leaving in June, it is up to you if you do. Thing is though there are part time and not so glamorous types of jobs out there that may not pay great, but is still a job, perhaps you should be looking at something like that. Work a few part time jobs if needed vs looking for some great FT job which you will leave in June anyway. Christmas is also around the corner and you may see some opportunities for temp jobs for awhile too. In the end, a paycheck is a paycheck, if you have to flip burgers, so be it, if you have to stock shelves, so be it. If I was in your position, that is what I would do, I would take on several PT jobs.
As for your recruiter, if you sent in the paperwork, then there is really not much more he can do either. He still has a job to do as well and has other recruits to look out for too, there isn't the time to spend and worry about your DAR because you want to ship earlier. Paperwork can be very slow in the military and that is just how it is, saying you can't get a straight answer out of your recruiter doesn't help, he did his job.
