Try a search - I believe this may have come up recently. A few that come to mind are Culinary Specialist, Seabees, some Engineering & Admin ratings (although most Admin I know have a Secret clearance).
I'm sure there are more. Good luck! chief |

Anything Submarines require at least a secret. That includes the CS rating. Why do you ask? If I may be so nosey.

Hey mpwimmer......in response to your question of why I ask, and you are not being nosey.
I am Prior Service and back in my days, I was never told of security clearances when I joined in the early 90's. I know they were probally around, but noone ever spoke of them and I was a YN on the ship for goodness sakes. I had so many people from recruiters to meps this year telling all different stories about the clearances.... Recruiters telling you a security clearance has to be done prior to enlistment but CREDIT is not an issue and even Meps stating not so good credit will not be a factor for coming in the Navy. Saw over 7 people this year, new recruits get in and swear all with Slow to Bad Credit, including the recruiter putting them in. I guess, who really knows the truth. It seems every distict of Meps does as they wish. Recruiters will tell you that Credit is not an issue to the Navy just the Air Force. I know to get the security clearance, I am assured a credit check is involved. It is hard when Meps looks you straight in the eye and states that It will not be an problem if a person has Bad Credit, they can still enlist. |

And they are correct. Credit is not an issue to join. Poor credit can effect your eligibility for a clearance. Two different things. |

Thought debt to income was, though? Or am I just confused again? |

Question- when they are looking at debt to income ratio are they considering household income or what you yourself would be making as an AD Sailor? |

The ONLY time in the recruiting process that debt and income are considered for enlistmet in the Navy is if you have dependents. No dependents, nobody cares about your debt until clearance time. mandy, Yes household income (ie what you are going to make and what your spouse is reasonably expected to make at your duty station). |

Thanks. I guess being a Submariner where everyone had to have at least a secret clearance I heard a lot about them.

I've said this before on another thread so those that heard this already please forgive me.
Yes, there are ratings that do not require you to hold a clearance (or even be a US National for that matter). However, whether or not you need a security clearance also depends on where you are assigned and what your duties would entail at that location. For example, I'm a BM. I also held a secret clearance because of where I was stationed a couple of different times. I still have it as I work now at a location requiring me to have it even though I do not have the requisite "Need to Know" to access classified info. |
