What job title is Marshalling in the Navy? I would like to join this position after college, is it a fun job? Hard work? Thanks!

You might want to look into ABH as a rating.

This is not a job title in the Navy. For the Air Force it is but for the Navy this is the job of junior enlisted Sailors in Aviation. Pick an aviation rate you qualify for and you will likely learn this.

I had a buddy that was ABH on the Kitty Hawk and said he hated it. Wouldn't say why, all I know is his AD was up and he came running back to civvy thanking the Lord.

But as has been pointed out, he will certainly be involved in it as an ABH.

Any aviation rate assigned to a squadron learns this as almost every airdale (except a few AZ/AKs) start out in the line shack. They learn how to launch, recovery, fuel, defuel, do daily maintance, etc onthe aircraft. ABHs move the planes but that is about it and they don't start learning this until they've been in for a while.

Katsomoto, he probably got tired of having to work the flight deck or hangar deck 18 to 20 hours a day during flight ops.
Also he probably started out carrying chocks and chains being a blue shirt before making petty officer.
Those guys put in an amount of hours and work that is unbelieveable. Then its amazing how dangerous a space a 1070 feet by 310 feet can be with high performance military aircraft taxiing, taking off and landing in that area. One unattentive moment and bang you can and will be dead!
I remember times we worked so long and so hard for days at time that you got to the point that you really didn't know if you were asleep or awake because you dreamed working on the flight deck while you were asleep!! I was a squadron maintenance person and didn't always work the hours the blue and yellow shirts did. It always amazed me no end how they were able to do it.
Hey, some people, after their enlistment say hey! Enough for me! Evidently your friend did.
Maybe it might have been a combination of things. Personal problems added in there don't always help matters.

I believe it's "Aircraft Marshalling" - not to be confused with Air Marshals (armed LEO's aboard aircraft), of which the Navy - and the military, in general - has none. Just a small difference, but the title is a bit confusing.

There is also the Marshal air c**troller **board the air craft carrier. If I remember correctly this is the AC c**trolling the aircraft above the carrier.

I'm not saying that various flight deck personnal do not 'cross train' in various duties, nor do I know how long your term is for "they've been in for a while" but;

PACIFIC OCEAN (June 4, 2008) Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Handling) Airman Johnkeith Elopre, of Fontana, Calif., directs an EA-6B Prowler ***igned to Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 136 into launching position aboard the USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63).

are they called "Aircraft shooters" as well? Look at this picture

Shooters are all officers- pilots who are on their disassociated tour on the carrier. It's a different job from ABH.

BM1,
Nice picture, but every airman assigned to a squadron's line shack does this job when the planes are ashore. Once they are qualified as a plane captain, which can take from 3-12 months, depending on the motivation of the person.

For an ABH to get to this level it usually takes 12+ months. They start out as blue shirts carry chocks and chains.
