Was an E-5 in the Army. Can one keep rank if they were to join back up with the Navy? Also, what is the cutoff age to go to OCS for prior service and do they get a choice as to what job, or "rate as they call it", they can go after? I orginally posted a couple of these questions for the Naval Construction Batt. personal cause I am interested in the SeaBees'. Anyway, thanks for helping me out!
The posts here for the last year indicate that the navy is taking NO other service vets. It is very difficult for navy vets to re-enter. As far as OCS, pay grades, etc.., it would be best for you to contact a navy recruiter.
your chances of even getting in period are slim. if it happens expect to lose at least one paygrade. More if you have been out more than a couple of years.

Best bet to retain your paygrade and get in the Bees is through the reserves. Active is hard to get right now for priors and Bees is likely even more difficult. Talk to your local recruiter as they will be able to give you the best, most up to date info.
Thanks a lot for all of your replies. I'm not sure on this. I have spoke to an enlisted recruiter as well as the officer liaison at MEPS. Both are ready for me to come down there, select my job, and ship right out. Neither of them have told me anything about being prior service and hard to get in. I did ask on this as I have heard this as well. I try to stay current with the news, especially the military. BUT, they told me no. They said they would take me; I can go down to MEPS, select a rate, and a ship date. Obviously I will not have to go to basic, but I would have to go to Great Lakes for some training to learn about the Navy then off to A School. Basically I just need to decide from here if I am going to do it. I just wanted to get the inside scope from you all, and I do appreciate your help. Thanks!
