the average wait time to ship for any and all ratings is 9-12 months.
the Navy doesn have space to send you to A school yet. people with ASVABS in the high 90's are being told there are no ratings available to them at this time. There can be no freedom without sacrifice |

Take this time to enjoy your friends and family. Get yourself into good physical shape...Bootcamp will probably actually cause you to lose fitness unfortunately. Read the DEP study documents you were given. Explore the possibility of special programs such as SEAL,EOD, or SWCC. Doing all this properly will help the time go by and allow you to be in the best possible condition for your Navy career...oh yeah one last thing, DON'T DO ANYTHING STUPID! The Navy is less likely than ever to be tolerant of DEP'ers getting into trouble. See you in the fleet!

How was nuke closed? My recruiter says that's the only job they'll never stop needing people for, and they're still telling him now to put people in the nuke program. In fact, he says that's the only ones they're putting in now. He says it's even getting near impossible to pick up a Special Warfare contract.
Anyway, Vindicated, what do you mean boot camp might cause you to lose fitness? My recruiter says only 25% of boot camp is physical training, which was disappointing to me, but I don't see how you'd LOSE fitness at boot camp. Does physical training just drop off entirely after the first few weeks? |

I'd say the majority of our workout regimen consisted of marching everywhere. The actually physical training was very elementary and not sufficient except to allow you to pass the PRT at minimum levels. Our Division decided to workout at night after lights out so we could maintain some semblance of fitness. If I had only worked out during the alloted times, I would have had a pretty tough time getting through Air Crew School. Obviously I'm only speaking from my experience and I cannot pretend to know what yours will be like...just my two cents.

Nuke is "closed" because there are massive delays in the training pipeline due to some of the training facilities being non-operational for extended periods of time for one reason or another. Nuke wannabe's partway through the program are spending anywhere from 2-4 months in a holding pattern picking up trash around base because there's no room for them in the next portion of the pipeline. |

Interesting. We just had a kid added to our DEP pool about 2 weeks ago with a nuke contract, and he leaves next month.
