This is a thing someones probably gonna say to use the search function and I did. But this isn't just about trying to get in with a GED and I prefer direct responses to my question and not those found in the search function.
I am planning on going and getting my GED in the next couple months and have a strong desire to join the Navy. My question is how hard and unlikely would it be that I would get in with only a GED? Do you think I would be better off getting the 15 college credits? 100 Level or higher? How fast could a go about getting these 15 college credits? Is there a college Repayment program by the Navy if I get in after? I happen to think I'm a pretty smart person and asvab probably wouldn't be that hard for me but people mention some jobs being unavailable for the simple fact that I have a GED and not a HS Diploma which somewhat bothers me cause I'd like to have all my options available for such a huge commitment. Any and all advice/suggestions would be great. Thanks |

Since this is the beginning of the Fiscal Year, you'd best see that recruiter to see if the Navy is taking GED alone applicants. Those slots fill up quick if the Navy alloted for GED applicants. Definitely! Your status will be upgraded to Tier I - HS Grad applicant and in effect you will have more options. Yes, 100 and higher level courses are the only ones that will count towards the 15 credits How fast? That's one semester as a full time student meaning a few months. Then you'd best knock out those college credits. |

Thanks for your detailed response to all my questions and statements =) I'll get my GED taken care of and then probably pursue those college credits. I'll make sure to see a recruiter before college credits to make sure of my options. |

There's more to the ASVAB than you think. It's also a timed test, much like the SAT, GMAT, etc. If you test well, you'll be ok. As for the acceptance of the Diploma over a GED, here's some advice, and this is good for not just thinking about the military but ANY company as well. Think about what is good for the group as a whole, not YOU. It's not about YOU, it's about the needs of the Navy. Put aside this "it's all about me" stuff. From the military's point of view, you quit a free education. If you quit that, and it didn't cost you anything, what are the odds that you'll quit the military too? Much more than someone who stuck it out. This is the reason they graciously give you the option to go to Univeristy and get the 15 credits, prove you can actually stick to something. I know, I know, there as some special reason you didn't finish, but you know what? The military doesn't care about My dog this, and my wife that excuses. Either you did or you didn't. Either way, you need to get your GED. The world is an extremely LIMITED place for someone with out a HS education. If you want to join the Navy, then also go to college and get those credits. A great many doors will open to you, provided you earn the admission ticket. Good luck. |

i have similar situation here. i wanted to join the navy with a high school diploma form africa (West Africa Examination Council Certificate) but i was told that its not up to 15 credits or kind of "not up to requirment". I'm thinking, should i sit for the GED or CLEP? or should i wait till i finish my diploma course in MA (medical Assistant)? Please give me some advice. Alternatively i have been thinking of going to national guard since they can even pay for all these GED, CLEP and so and after change service to the Navy. PLEASE I NEED A STRONG ADVICE ABOUT THIS INTRA SERVICE THING. SOMEBODY HELP!!!
