Can anyone (perhaps a Corpsman) tell me what all those shots we got in basic were? Some were given in both arms at same time using high powered air gun gizmo. Funny thing is I never recall getting food poisoning even though i ate off the roach coaches and geedunk trucks on the piers overseas not to mention all the portside cafes.
I am interested in what these shots are as well...I am leaving on 20080205 for RTC and I have posted the same question before and never received any answers.
Yellow Fever, Tetanus, PPD test, MMR (blood test to ensure you've had it), Hepatitis A&B (not sure if all get this one), Polio, Flu (seasonal...you'll get it at some point), Meningoccoal.
Other shots people may get...depends on where they are going...Anthrax, Small Pox, Cholera, and Typhoid (I think most get this). If deploying to Iraq, Afghanistan, etc., expect the Anthrax and Small Pox. Department of the Navy made Anthrax mandatory for Sailors last Spring. I have found both Small Pox and Anthrax annoying...but tolerable.
I'm sure there may be others immunizations...this was what was relatively fresh in my mind from mob'ing last year.
Seebee2nfo gave all of the shots given, but you'll only see Yellow Fever, MMR, Meningococcal, Tetanus-Diphtheria, Hep-A & B (Twinrix), Influenza, Polio, and you'll have a PPD test administered. Sometimes I've seen them come from boot with a typhoid as well, but not always the case.
Any further immunizations will be given at your first command or "A" School depending on how long you're there.
Maybe they're trying to equalize everybody in the realm of germdom. I never could figure out why I got all those shots to start with and then got most of em again when I went overseas. I hate needles.

We read and hear all the new information on misuse of antibiotics, and the role that can play in developing antibiotic-resistant bugs. So why are they still giving a singe dose to new recruits at boot camp?
My son was told that they DO still give the penicillin in the rump, but those who are allergic get an alternate shot in the arm. He's in boot camp now, I'll ask him what all he got. May be a few weeks before I can post an answer however...
