I know someone who has successfully been processed by MEPs and has DEP'ped into the Navy and has been contracted to a job with secret clearance. He was a medical marijuana patient. He has cancelled his prescription. My question is: Would he be able to be accepted into a rating with a top secret clearance (IS, CTI, etc.) due to the thorough background check? Also, how should he go about this background check?

the Military does not( apparently I need to review/proofread more before hitting the post now button) recognize the validity of a marijuana 'prescription'.
long term use is a PDQ. more than a double digit use over a lifetime is a PDQ. Failure to mention that he took it, for any reason..'medical' or otherwise..is Fraudulent enlistment. the Recruit has nothing to do with the background check. that's all on whatever civilian agency that is hired to perform it. the use WILL be discovered. Hmmmm Medical marajuana is associated with cancer and glaucoma ususally........I guess his "medical" necessity for it is probably a DQ as well, and I'm guessing he never told the Navy about that, either?

I guess it really doesn't matter why it was prescribed, but seems he was up front and not currently using, so got the clearance. I suppose there could be other reasons besides cancer or gluacoma to prescribe it, it depends upon the doc.

It doesn't say he got his clearance. Said he contracted into DEP. BIG difference. They contracted him under a pre-screen. They have yet to do the investigation. |

Yeah but I'm with catherine..ten bucks sez the use, prescribed or otherwise, was never disclosed..nor was the reason for the prescription.
I am still thinking Fraudulent Enlistment here. There can be no freedom without sacrifice |

OK, I see where you guys are coming from...had to go back and re-read...the old "a friend" I know. YEp, could be fraudulent, but it could also be that hhe was honest and said he did use marijuana in the past, medicinal or not, if so, there shouldn't be an issue with the enlistment. If not, then we may be on here in a few months to next year or so with someone asking how to get back in because of a discharge for not disclosing smoking pot. |

Heck, in Oregon you can get medical mary j for just about anything. There are doctors here who will prescribe it for pain management. |
